Doug Engelbart 1968 Demo

On December 9, 1968, Douglas C. Engelbart and the group of 17 researchers working with him in the Augmentation Research Center at Stanford Research Institute in Menlo Park, CA, presented a 90-minute live public demonstration of the online system, NLS, they had been working on since 1962. The public presentation was a session of the Fall Joint Computer Conference held at the Convention Center in San Francisco, and it was attended by about 1,000 computer professionals. This was the public debut of the computer mouse. But the mouse was only one of many innovations demonstrated that day, including hypertext, object addressing and dynamic file linking, as well as shared-screen collaboration involving two persons at different sites communicating over a network with audio and video interface.

How to Master Screencasts in Seven Steps

Making screencasts (also known as “video tutorials”) is already easy, and becomes easier with better tools and broadband proliferation. However, no tech is complete without a human who dives in, does experiments, and discerns best practices from the results.

I’ve made over 200 video tutorials, mostly for the virtual world of Second Life, and I’ve also done tutorials for stuff like YouTube (YouTube) and Sony Vegas. If a picture’s a 1,000 words, then a video is… a LOT more.

Through such experience, these are tips ‘n’ tricks I’m sure you’ll find practical and applicable to your further forays into the video fields:

Dyad Guidelines

This technique is a useful way to start a class to reinforce the need for active listening. It is also a way to redirect a discussion if it gets out of control, or if something else seems to be undermining the learning process.

New technology could be end to the guidebook - Times Online

Tourists will be able to call up images and video footage of landmark attractions in their heyday — seen from the spot on which they are standing.

At the Colosseum, visitors will be regaled by gladiatorial clashes, while at the Parthenon in Greece they will see images of the goddess Athena. As tourists move around a site, the scene displayed on their phone will change.
The software — based on a technology called “augmented reality” — is being jointly developed by a British firm and a German company and could ultimately make the guide book redundant.
