Study: Googling Oneself Is More Popular -- chicagotribune.com

Interesting stats on looking up yourself, friends, and others through search engines. Most people say they aren't concerned about the information available about them online and that it is accurate. The low number of people reporting negative experiences from online information was a surprise to me--the fears about transparency don't seem to be backed up with data.

Fact-Testing on the Britannica Blog: Analyzing Internet Search Skills

  • Responding to a post on the Britannica blog that admonishes people who rely on the first page of search results  (citing incorrect stats and ignoring search refinement to back up the point), Matthew Tabor goes through some actual stats on how people search. 62% of users click on results in the first page (as opposed to the 1% claimed on Britannica's blog), but many users will refine their search results if they don't find what they want quickly from their initial search.
