The Poet as Sound Man
"He [Kleinzahler] visits the Liberace Museum and writes about Liberace’s “intriguingly repulsive” playing. He writes about airplane music, the Muscle Shoals rhythm section, the making of mix tapes, Tina Turner’s bad old days, the joy of bar jukeboxes, Debussy, John Coltrane, and how he once leaped onstage during a John Lee Hooker set in Juneau, Alaska, only to be thrown right back off onto the floor. It’s a weird, heady stew."
The Social History of the MP3
"This is our attempt to survey the damage, assess the gains, and try to put the mp3's first full decade in perspective. Keep in mind that while the mp3 is a radically new technology, it's not a different musical medium: The mp3 is still "recorded music"-- that's not going to change until Apple unveils the iBrain-- but it's recorded music that moves around very differently than ever before. As a result, mp3s have opened up vast new musical horizons over the past 10 years-- how we discover it, the value we give to it, and how we see ourselves connected to other people through it-- that both depart from and build upon the innovations that came before it. Everything's still messy at the moment, but it's not going to be this way forever-- a few decades from now, we'll most likely find ourselves nostalgic for the mp3 decade."
Pianist Gould foresaw tech role in music - Los Angeles Times
Gould's withdrawal from the concert stage did not mean his withdrawal from the music world. Rather, it enhanced his stature in that world, making him an inspiration for the digital recording era.
Karaoke rage. - By Brian Raftery - Slate Magazine
Drinkwine's sad, stupid plight wasn't an isolated incident: In August 2007, a Seattle man was assaulted onstage during a karaoke rendition of Coldplay's "Yellow," while last December, a San Diego man encored his karaoke set by walking toward the crowd and attacking an audience member. And in Asia, there's been a string of karaoke-bar stabbings and shootings, including a horrific incident in Bangkok in which eight amateur singers were murdered by their neighbor, reportedly due in part to his hatred of John Denver's "Country Roads."

YouTube Now Mutes Videos With Unauthorized Copyrighted Music
This is so completely the wrong way to go about this... I've never been as shaken by a clueless Google move as I am by this. Completely and absolutely counter-productive.
