Medialab-Prado is a program of the Department of Arts of the City Council of Madrid, aimed at the production, research, and dissemination of digital culture and of the area where art, science, technology, and society intersect.
Our primary objective is to create a structure where both research and production are processes permeable to user participation. To that end, Medialab-Prado offers:

· Open calls for the presentation of proposals and participation in the collaborative development of projects.
Apparati Effimeri
Apparati Effimeri™ is a video-artist collective born in Bologna in 2008. It offers professional video solutions through the conscious use of new media technologies; finding inspirations in new artistic tendencies while keeping in mind the needs of the artists. Their professional staff deal with the designing and developing of visual environments unique and functional to all spaces and able to enhance every kind of location.
Apparati Effimeri™ creates video sets for concerts and live performances. Their work includes an in-depth analysis of space so as to make the most of the available technology and achieve the greatest impact. The surfaces where they project evade the classic 4:3 screen format in order to create visual environments which embrace the public - using multi-screen projection, contrived surfaces and pre-existing objects. Live visual content is synchronised with sound (through frequency spectrum anaThe scenic effect is therefore unique and unrepeatable.
20 Visualizations to Understand Crime | FlowingData
There's a lot of crime data. For almost every reported crime, there's a paper or digital record of it somewhere, which means hundreds of thousands of data points - number of thefts, break-ins, assaults, and homicides as well as where and when the incidents occurred.
With all this data it's no surprise that the NYPD (and more recently, the LAPD) took a liking to COMPSTAT, an accountability management system driven by data.
While a lot of this crime data is kept confidential to respect people's privacy, there's still plenty of publicly available records. Here we take a look at twenty visualization examples that explore this data.
MATSYS
Established in 2004 by Andrew Kudless, Matsys is an architectural design studio that explores the emergent relationships between architecture, engineering, biology, and computation. Based on the idea that architecture can be understood as a material body with its own intrinsic and extrinsic forces relating to form, growth, and behavior, the studio investigates methodologies of performative integration through geometric and material differentiation. The studio’s work ranges from speculative and built projects to the crafting of new tools which facilitate an interdisciplinary approach to the design and fabrication of architecture.
