"I have a cunning plan" - an e-learning CoP strategy for a NZ Institute of Technology
I will stick my neck out and suggest that this kind of informal and free continuing professional development is making more inroads into better pedagogy than any single CPD programme could ever achieve.
Do you write or prepare content for online courses?
Being aware of the readability of text destined for online students is an important consideration when writing and sourcing readings for online courses.
Backchannel communication is a secondary conversation that takes place at the same time as a conference session, lecture, or instructor-led learning activity. This might involve students using a chat tool or Twitter to discuss a lecture as it is happening, and these background conversations are increasingly being brought into the foreground of lecture interaction. Digital technologies allow background discussions—which have always been a component of classes, conferences, and presentations—to be brought out of the shadows and, perhaps, incorporated as a formal part of learning activities. Instructors and presenters alike should be aware of this dynamic and the opportunity it presents to add another dimension to learning.
I’m presenting to my colleagues at the Faculty of Education, University of Regina this coming Wednesday on the potential for networked learning in teacher education, K-12 and higher education. Our MoodleBites for Course Designers course is completely online and eight weeks in duration. It is a direct follow-on from our MoodleBites for Teachers course. The course is suitable for teachers who are familiar with all the basics of Moodle and have been using it for more than a year (or previously completed MoodleBites for Teachers).
This is a collection of 2 Minute Moodles - an attempt to simplify and show how to use a range of Moodle features to a busy teacher.
The tutorials try not to assume too much previous knowledge and are presented for the pragmatical and not necessarily tech-savy users (Moodle purists please excuse). They are a bit like that product I got the pun from - something quick and simple to get you going.
