ClojureQL — Where are we (going) ? « BEST IN CLASS
"ClojureQL enables the Clojurian to stay within his Clojure-domain even when interfacing with his SQL database, greatly simplifying the code-base."
Project Voldemort
Voldemort is a distributed key-value storage system
* Data is automatically replicated over multiple servers.
* Data is automatically partitioned so each server contains only a subset of the total data
* Server failure is handled transparently
Geniusql - Trac
low-level Object-Relational Mapper for Python applications. It primarily uses a generic Table Data Gateway architecture (as opposed to the more tightly-coupled Active Record architecture). If you want a more powerful solution, we recommend skipping Active Record and going straight to a Data Mapper like Dejavu. Dejavu uses Geniusql behind the scenes for RDBMS back ends, but allows you to mix and match them with RAM, filesystem, and other stores.
nmdb - A multiprotocol network database
nmdb is a network database (dbm-style) for controlled networks that can use different protocols to to communicate with its clients. It supports TIPC, TCP, UDP and SCTP.
It consists of an in-memory cache that saves (key, value) pairs, and a persistent backend that stores the pairs on disk.
Both work combined, but the use of the backend is optional, so you can use the server only for cache queries, pretty much like memcached.

Nerdblog.com: Cloud DBs
research on "cloud databases" - the non-relational key/value storage systems that people are using to scale their web apps past MySQL and SQLite.
-
you should know which of these systems support horizontal scaling (i.e. linear scaling when you add more machines), and those include HBase, Cassandra, and some layers on top of the key/value guys
-
Most of the above systems (including CouchDB) do not scale horizontally

M/DB is a Free Open Source "plug-compatible" alternative to Amazon's SimpleDB database. Outwardly, M/DB behaves identically to SimpleDB, being accessed through the same REST APIs and returning identical responses.
