Mitt Romney returned from a three-week spring break in 1965 to resume his studies as a high school senior at the prestigious Cranbrook School. ...
A few days later, Friedemann entered Stevens Hall off the school’s collegiate quad to find Romney marching out of his own room ahead of a prep school posse shouting about their plan to cut Lauber’s hair. Friedemann followed them to a nearby room where they came upon Lauber, tackled him and pinned him to the ground. As Lauber, his eyes filling with tears, screamed for help, Romney repeatedly clipped his hair with a pair of scissors.
The incident was recalled similarly by five students, who gave their accounts independently of one another.
Ah yes, equality under the law is divisive! But only when Democrats start gaining the upper hand. Because there was nothing divisive about Don't Ask Don't Tell, or the Defense of Marriage Act, or the anti-gay marriage initiatives that Republicans pushed in 31 states.
North Carolina law already bans gay marriage, but an amendment effectively seals the door on same-sex marriages.
The amendment also goes beyond state law by voiding other types of domestic unions from carrying legal status, which opponents warn could disrupt protection orders for unmarried couples.
The Virginia Senate passed a bill Monday afternoon that would allow private adoption agencies to discriminate against same-sex parents...
North Dakota is the only state in the nation that allows private adoption agencies to discriminate.
This customary same-gender marriage arrangement – practised among Kenya’s Kalenjin (encompassing the Nandi, Kipsigis, and Keiyo), Kuria and Akamba communities – has come under the legal spotlight recently because of an inheritance case currently before the courts; some relatives are fighting to inherit a large house which would, by law, pass to the spouse of the late wife.
...traditional same-sex marriages have been a historical part of Africa’s culture — in over 30 different populations, including the Yoruba, Ibo, Nuer, Lovedu, Zulu, and Sotho — long before colonialism imported homophobia.
Clearly, being the victim of gay-bashing isn't a justification for statutory rape. But the defendant's case does shed some light on how groups of guys can police masculinity with horrifying consequences. We don't know the exact circumstances of the assault, but the defendant wouldn't be the first teenage boy to have sex — or participate in a rape — just to show he's a man.
...the initiative would strike the sections of California educational code that require schools to include information about the historical contributions of LGBT people, along with other groups, in social studies courses and prohibit schools from adopting discriminatory materials that reflect adversely on LGBT people.
The Mills family blasted the National Organization for Marriage for remaining silent about the marriage debacle of reality star Kim Kardashian and NBA player Chris Humphries. Kardashian filed for divorce on Monday, after only 72 days of marriage. The "marriage preservation" organization has failed to issue a statement about the spectacle/sham, although the organization is usually very loud when lambasting gay couples who are actually in loving, committed and long-term relationships and want to legally marry.
A student at Union-Scioto High School in Chillicothe, Ohio was brutally beaten this week by another student for being gay. Class members watched as the bully waited for the student to arrive in the classroom, grabbed him, pushed him to the ground and punched him in the face several times. ...
According to an email received by Towleroad from Equality Ohio, "The victim has suffered a possible concussion and dental damage. The attacker was suspended from school for just three days. "

I don't get it, sometimes. Is the goal to terrorize a child who will probably end up growing up heterosexual (but likely bullied for having gay parents) anyway?
More than anything, what’s wrong this story is the policy that prevents gay men from donating blood.
During this morning’s Senate DOMA hearings, Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) destroyed Focus on the Family’s Tom Minnery’s argument that children are better off with opposite-sex parents by demonstrating how Minnery misrepresented an HHS study. The study — which Minnery cited to oppose marriage equality — actually found that children do best in two-parent households, regardless of the parents’ gender. Watch it: [video]
This is not the first time that the Bachmanns have come under fire over allegations that their clinic, Bachmann & Associates, uses controversial reparative therapy in attempts to turn gay men into heterosexuals.
Judge Ware’s decision is completely unsurprising. What was surprising was that Prop 8 defendants were so desperate that they mounted this ugly and legally dubious attack on Judge Walker in the first place. Judges in future appeals on this case will be free to discard Judge Walkers legal reasoning, but they will probably defer to Walker’s findings of fact; the Prop 8 defendants apparently believe that those findings of facts are very damaging to their case.

Less than a month after [Maddow's] much-talked-about interview with the Guardian, in which she encouraged her closeted on-air peers to reveal their true gay selves, someone answered that call.
...homophobia is a collective American societal ill -- otherwise, the It Gets Better Project would be directed only toward black teens. That's why there is a danger in even indirectly promoting in the media the myth of the big black homophobe.
