World Economic Forum - What We Do

The activities of the Forum of Young Global Leaders are almost as diverse as the community itself. Throughout the year, activities are planned with the three pillars of the YGL community – community building, generating insight and undertaking collective action – providing a strong framework for the events.

The Forum of Young Global Leaders organizes regular events throughout the year including the YGL Summits, which provide an opportunity for fellow YGLs to meet, share ideas and discuss ways to collectively shape the future. The Kennedy School Leadership and Public Policy for the 21st Century Module provides a convening opportunity for the YGLs to gain critical skills and knowledge in key issue areas as well as leadership skills.

YGLs often initiate different task forces around the biggest global challenges facing our generation – health, education, the environment, global governance and security, and development and poverty. Often when YGLs meet, new ideas and task forces are initiated. Some concrete activities stemming from the task forces include addressing hunger in the developing world, promoting mass deworming in schools for children affected by parasitic worms and spreading the principles of dignity in schools around the globe.

Since 1907, it has been a pioneer in the provision of information on international organizations and their global challenges.

International associations, now often referred to as INGOs (international non-governmental organizations) and IGOs (inter-governmental organizations), play a role in every facet of 21st century life in all parts of the world. The UIA documents this development, recording information about organizations, their concerns, their philosophies, and their goals. About | OER Commons

ISKME created OER Commons, publicly launched in February 2007, to provide support for and build a knowledge base around the use and reuse of open educational resources (OER). As a network for teaching and learning materials, the web site offers engagement with resources in the form of social bookmarking, tagging, rating, and reviewing. OER Commons has forged alliances with over 120 major content partners to provide a single point of access through which educators and learners can search across collections to access over 24,000 items, find and provide descriptive information about each resource, and retrieve the ones they need. By being "open," these resources are publicly available for all to use, and principally through Creative Commons licensing, many thousands are legally available for repurposing, modifying and improving.

The worldwide OER movement is rooted in the idea that equitable access to high-quality education is a global imperative. Open Educational Resources, or OER, offer opportunities for systemic change in teaching and learning through accessible content, and importantly, through embedding participatory processes and effective technologies for engaging with learning. By leveraging our technical infrastructure and developing teacher training models that facilitate participation with OER, the OER Commons project aims to grow a sustainable culture of sharing among educators at all levels.

Continuing its efforts to support the dynamic discovery and dissemination of teaching and learning content through the OER Commons platform, ISKME is developing training and professional development models to support teachers and schools in effective uses of online content and to meet the demands of 21st century learning. As a key part of the OER Commons initiative, we work directly with teachers and students to engage with learning resources through processes that involve continuous improvement, that require collaboration and social learning, and build expertise from within and from the bottom-up. We develop, fac

About | HASTAC

A consortium of humanists, artists, scientists, and engineers, of leading researchers and nonprofit research institutions, HASTAC ("Haystack") is committed to new forms of collaboration across communities and disciplines fostered by creative uses of technology. Our primary members are universities, supercomputing centers, grid and teragrid associations, humanities institutes, museums, libraries, and other civic institutions. Since 2003, we have been developing tools for multimedia archiving and social interaction, gaming environments for teaching, innovative educational programs in information science and information studies, virtual museums, and other digital projects.

In today’s society, technological advances and digital media are inextricably linked to most aspects of our lives. However, the historic barriers existing between the traditionally-defined disciplines of the humanities and the sciences still remain, regardless of the growing interdependence these domains have upon each other. With this in mind, HASTAC’s mission is two-fold: to ensure that humanistic and humane considerations are never far removed from technological advances; and to push education and learning to the forefront of digital innovation. Similarly, HASTAC is dedicated to the idea that this complex and world-changing digital environment requires all the lessons of history, introspection, theory, and equity that the modern humanities (broadly defined) have to offer. Our aim is to promote expansive models for research, teaching, and thinking.

About tribe.net - tribe.net

At tribe.net, we believe in the power of connecting to other people to get things done. Since that can be surprisingly hard in a city, we founded tribe.net to make it easier. Whether it's for finding the right job, a killer apartment, a good restaurant, a gentle dentist, or a hiking buddy, we think those tasks are best done by connecting with other local people for advice and sharing.

The people you connect to can be your friends, people who live in your neighborhood, or people who live in your city that share a common interest with you. Tribe.net makes finding those people easier. You can invite friends, search for people with similar interests, and join or create tribes (member-created online groups) dedicated to interests you might have. The more people you're connected to, the better tribe.net will work for you.
