Goodbye to the Age of Newspapers (Hello to a New Era of Corruption)
We take newspapers for granted. They have been so integral a part of daily life in America, so central to politics and culture and business, and so powerful and profitable in their own right, that it is easy to forget what a remarkable historical invention they are. Public goods are notoriously under-produced in the marketplace, and news is a public good--and yet, since the mid-nineteenth century, newspapers have produced news in abundance at a cheap price to readers and without need of direct subsidy. More than any other medium, newspapers have been our eyes on the state, our check on private abuses, our civic alarm systems.

Creating Passionate Users: Listening to users considered harmful?
It turned out that most of the major changes they made to their program came not from user requests and suggestions, but from the Parelli team's own innovations. He went on to explain that their members/students/users had no idea what was needed to make better, faster, deeper breakthroughs. In fact, many of the changes went against what their user feedback seemed to suggest. In other words, in many ways the Parelli team deliberately did not listen to users.

Multilogue | Fast Company
This chain reaction convinced me that the most powerful marketing is not delivered directly from a seller to a potential customer (monologue), or even transferred through an interactive, two-way relationship with a customer (dialogue). In order to benefit from truly powerful marketing, a company must entice its customers to talk about the brand to others "after the party" (multilogue).

The European Union has funded a €4.02 million (£3.6m, $5.2m) project dubbed KEEP, for Keeping Emulation Environments Portable, which will develop new ways to archive digital objects endangered by the relentless march of technology. As well as games, it will work to ensure that other kinds of files and software remain accessible long after the demise of the hardware and software for which they were originally intended.

Nicholas Carr's Blog: The writing is on the paywall
Nicholas looks at the future of journalism and the news industry, and tries to figure out of micropayments is the answer. Cites anti-paper arguments from various thinkers, like Clay Shirky and Jeff Jarvis.
