I predict that eventually Windows 7 will arrive before Vista did, thereby erasing Vista from memory and human history. Maybe not, but it seems like it can't come too soon.

"As CNET News reported earlier Thursday, Microsoft has tapped comedian Jerry Seinfeld to star in a $300 million marketing campaign aimed at countering negative perceptions of its oft-maligned Vista operating system. The comedian, best known for his eponymous NBC sitcom, will reportedly get $10 million for the campaign, which is expected to play off the phrase "Windows, Not Walls," and to stress the connection between people and ideas."

The InfoWorld staff combed the data for hardware that's new enough to have shipped after Vista had been preinstalled, and found that 35 percent of it was actually running XP."

No Vista for Daimler or GM, to add on to Intel. Obviously this is a big opportunity for those who want to encourage adoption of non-Windows operating systems like Linux and OS X. Does Open Solaris have a shot here as well? Are people switching from Windows to Solaris on the desktop?
