Collective X | Stay in the loop with your group
A site similar to Ning in that you can create customizable social networks and have a single account to use across all of them (though you can have two profiles, a professional one and a social one). Aimed more at collaboration than socialization and professional networks than social networks. Would be great if you could also keep custom fields on group members.
- A group-focused social networking site similar to LinkedIn but supposedly friendlier and more logically designed. - bluecockatoo on 2006-08-23
40billion.com - Friends and family funding, loans for small business entrepreneurs
A site that is supposed to help you raise captial for entreprenurial ventures starting with people you know. I'm not sure if it really works but an interesting idea.
Friendfeed Like Compatibility Calculator
Nice bit of javascript that will create a list of who also liked the last 30 things you liked to see who you share common interests with. I'd like to see it compare for longer periods but in the mean time, a good way to find other people who share your interests to subscribe to.
David Seah - Community Building for Introverts
How to meet interesting people, forge friendships and build communities despite being an introvert. David does a great job of describing the situation for introverts and explaining how he learned to get over those hurdles and meet people.

Msgr - Your Messenger.
-
A novel idea, sort of. Create your own private messaging service that you can limit membership to. I would feel a lot more comfortable trying it out if the site didn't look so unprofessional in FireFox (ok in IE).

Tooum : Excite your site
- A new free service that offers a combination blog/forum option hosted on their servers. Works on the idea (like I've always thought) that blogs and forums are essentially the same thing in different formats. I like the idea but wish you could host the software yourself like Wordpress... - bluecockatoo on 2006-09-26

Zaadz
- Not exactly sure what this site is about but it's something to keep an eye on. Looks like it's a community site for modern day hippies, or at least it has a very hippy vibe to it. - bluecockatoo on 2006-08-23
