Bittorrents in FreeNAS « ejes consulting

Among the many features that I enjoy in the FreeNAS project, one of my very favorite ones is the Bittorrent Server that it has built in.

Really it’s just a verion of Transmission bittorrent web client which I remember from Mac OS. (http://www.transmissionbt.com/) but running in WebGUI mode (by default on your freeNAS server on port 9091 http://freenas:9091 or similar)

The features that I want specifically is the blocklist feature, which allows you to download a list of blocked ips from known malware locations or otherwise malicious sites, and the ability to encrypt my traffic so that my ISP cannot detect my bittorrent traffic.

The 10 Best Movies to Show Off Your Home Theater - PC World

fter you're lucky enough to pull together the moola to buy the components of a great home theater, you know you'll want to demonstrate its finer points to your buddies.

And let's face it--Goodfellas may be a great film, but it won't have people oohing and ahhing about the fantastic picture and booming surround sound.

I've put together ten titles with spectacular scenery, great action, and aggressive, sub-woofer-heavy surround sound--the perfect movies for showing off your HDTV, sound system, and (if you have one) new Blu-ray player. I've also recommended one or two scenes in each film that will really wow the audience.

HowTo Install FreeNAS

FreeNAS is probably one of the easiest installations out there. I can’t believe that it takes only a few minutes to perform a complete installation of an operating system.

This article will walk you through the installation process for FreeNAS. If you successfully follow the instructions in this article, you will have completed everything needed from the actual computer. Once these steps are done, you will be able to remove the monitor, keyboard, and mouse from the system as everything else will be done from the webUI (web-based user interface)! There is also a video showing an actual FreeNAS installation on VMWare.

John Mee - Some programmer in Sydney » Schedule transmission bittorrent

Problem

Transmission doesn’t include any scheduling functionality to start/stop/trottle torrents during the day/week.

Solution

Don’t run the gui client. Instead (or as well) invoke transmission-daemon from the command line and use crontab to apply the schedule via transmission-remote

LinuxPlanet - Reviews - 3 Minutes to 3 Terabytes: VIA ARTiGO and FreeNAS Store Terabytes in a Shoebox - 3 Minutes to 3 Terabytes

Network Attached Storage (NAS) is one answer to sharing large storage devices over a network. You could buy a NAS device from your favorite local or Internet supplier, but chances are you'll wind up with something less than what a "real" NAS has to offer. That's where VIA's ARTiGO A2000 comes in. The A2000 fits a full-featured computer with space for two 3.5" SATA drives in a package about the size of a shoebox. Add to the hardware the FreeNAS open source software and you've got a really capable storage solution.

FreeNAS Home Server: Web Server

If you want a local webpage (or website), it is easy to create something simple with TiddlyWiki. Of course, if you have any webpage or website in html, that will suffice.

Perhaps a page of your favourite links, to ensure you can access the same bookmarks from any networked computer?

Anyway, the HTTP server is easy to enable. However, there is some groundwork to ensure it works smoothly.
