As it turns out there was another option that was immediately obvious: build a stand-alone office. Our house isn’t particularly big, but we do have a pretty good sized lot and it just so happens that there was a big chunk of it that we weren’t doing anything with. Behind our garage was a 10′ x 17′ area that one of the previous owners had gated-off and finished with a nice slab of concrete. We were using it to store junk, but it turned out to be the perfect place to put an office!

This statement, that appears in the netcomm docs, is misleading. All Homeplugs need to be on the same phase. In many domestic situations there is only one phase, so the NP's will work between any two power points - even though there may be several circuits which are all connected to the one phase.

- What is the difference between a modem/router/switch/WAP?
To understand the difference between a modem and a router, you need to understand several different, but related, devices. The individual devices are (1) an ADSL modem; (2) a router; (3) a switch; and (4) a wireless access point (WAP).
It becomes confusing because there are combination devices which can combine both an ADSL modem and a router in the one case as well as devices which can combine an ADSL modem, a router and a switch all in the one case!

But how does it work? Connect the main components (e.g. a DVD recorder) to the 'master' socket and all other components to the 'peripheral' sockets.
