harryd: Time machine Backups on FreeNAS
It is possible to use a NAS-Volume for Apples Mac OSX 'Time machine' backups! As described on many websites you have to enable this function. But I've only found one howto that really works!
Here are the steps...
signius: FreeNAS AFP server with OS X client
A long weekend, and finally a chance to put those twin terabyte drives to use. Since my first attempt at getting things running gave me a little trouble, I decided to wipe the box and start over. (And document the steps this time!)
How To Move Your Home Folder To Another Drive | Lifehacker Australia
If you’re on a Mac and looking to move your home folder, here’s how.
Five Reasons Why Designers are Switching to Mac | How-To | Smashing Magazine
It’s no secret that there has been a growing trend in recent years toward developers, especially of the web variety, choosing a Mac as their main dev machine. In this two-part series, we will examine some of the reasons behind this trend, look at some of the pitfalls of switching to the Mac, and go over the must-have software and configurations every switcher should be aware of.
Review: Apple's Mac Mini offers versatility, better graphics
Count me among those with a Mini hooked up to a high-definition television, where it dutifully serves as sort of a glorified Apple TV. Not only can I use it to surf the Web, but I can also watch videos, catch TV shows downloaded through iTunes and do big-screen video chats with iChat (and my own iSight Web cam). Versatile indeed.
Time Machine OSX Leopard to FreeNAS - Juna Software
Being an OSX Leopard server Time Machine is the obvious choice to backup the server. So it seems out of the box you can only use Time Machine with another OSX server or so it seems. I have always been keen on FreeNAS having used its cousin m0n0wall for some as a firewall.
A bit of quick digging round lead me to an article on ReadyNAS by DavidB. The instructions are for ReadyNAS but they work just as well for FreeNAS and I’m sure any other server you may want to use.
Mac mini 2009 edition Review | Desktop - Page 1 | Macworld
Pros
Tiny size; performance comparable to that of the $799 model; significantly improved graphics performance compared to older models; dual video outputs with support for extended Desktop mode and 30-inch displays; five USB ports; FireWire 800.
Cons
Even slower hard drive than $799 model; too little RAM; difficult to upgrade.
Apple Mac mini (Nvidia GeForce 9400M) - Full Review - Reviews by PC Magazine
Green and compact, the Apple Mac mini makes a good second PC in the house, or a great home base PC for someone with an iPod or iPhone... the short story is that the Mac mini is a very good, green system for those that need basic computing needs and an excellent base station for the family's iPhones or iPods.
System Requirements - Parallels Desktop 4.0 for Mac supports Windows XP, Windows Vista, and dozens of OSes
1 GB of RAM (2 GB recommended to run Windows Vista). Support for any memory configuration (up to 16 GB), without modifying your host system
Windows on a Mac: A Parallel View
Unlike Boot Camp, which forces you to restart to use Windows XP if you are using Mac OS X (or vice versa), Parallels Desktop allows you to run Windows XP, or several other versions of Windows -- or Linux or Solaris or other operating systems -- side by side with Mac OS X. Yes, if you want to get technical, they aren't really side by side: Windows (we'll assume you want to run Windows XP for the rest of this article) runs inside Parallels, and Parallels runs as a task under Mac OS X. You can quit out of Parallels just like you would any other Mac OS X application.

Review: EFiX Dongle Perfectly Transforms PC to Mac
When we first heard about EFiX—a simple USB dongle that'll let you magically install Leopard on your PC—it sounded too fantastic to be true. Well, I used it to turn my gaming PC into a Mac Pro over the weekend, and I'm somewhat amazed to say this, but it works perfectly.
Ipod Touch: Forget the iPhone--The iPod Touch is Good Enough
While you won't get every single one of the iPhone's capabilities when you opt for an iPod touch, you'll save a ton of money. Buying an iPod touch costs you $300 for unlimited use, not a guaranteed commitment of more than $1,600 over two years that the iPhone involves (more, if you have to pay a penalty to get out of your current cellphone contract). Here's how I use my plain old flip phone for calls and getting info in Wi-Fi less areas, and the iPod touch for everything else.
Hidden SDK features transform iPhone into TV gaming device: Page 1
What do you do after uncovering undocumented SDK features? I got in touch with Freeverse, makers of Moto Chaser, one of the top iPhone games in App Store. After a few back and forth e-mails, they agreed to try applying the MPTVOutWindow class to Moto Chaser (iTunes) to create a TV version of their game. A few hours later, they debuted their demo. Here is a video of the game in action:
The Simpsons mocks (m)Apple - Engadget
Few have been spared the satire of Matt Groening's long running animated sitcom. Last night, The Simpsons took on Apple, or uh, Mapple for a full 6 minutes of lampoonery -- a pretty harsh ride at a two-joke per minute pace. It all starts when the Springfield mall gets its very own Mapple store, "it's so sterile," gasps Lisa upon entering.
The Beer Life of Brian: Importing iTunes Statistics into amaroK
So I finally have a nice gentoo system up and running. Of course, I love my music, and I also love my statistics on my music. Seems that nobody had actually written a full script for importing iTunes info into amaroK (which is a pretty awesome media playe
