Deloitte (Consulting Practice) (Deloitte) Extended Employer Snapshot: Detailed Employment Information

  • Vault.com provides in-depth information for job researchers including
company profiles, advice, and insider information. Additionally,
subscribers receive updated newsletters of available career
opportunities and information for many industries including consulting.
Specifically, “Deloitte (Consulting Practice)” is an article that is
part of a series of company profiles in which insiders and Vault
editors delve deep into three chapters, succinctly covering salient
points of Deloitte Consulting history, interview information, and
    cultural practices.

Helpful to any job research is the history
of the company in question. Chapter one of the article introduces the
formation and evolution of Deloitte Consulting, beginning with a
concise account of the tribulations connected with external scandals
and finishing with the divergence from its accounting practice. In
addition, the chapter provides a brief biography of Deloitte Touche
Tohmatsu’s CEO, Doug Lattner, as well as an emphasis on the company’s
    ethnic and gender diversity.

It is safe and smart to know what
to expect in the interview processes unique to each company. According
to “insider information,” chapter two indicates Deloitte Consulting
offers two rounds of interviews—round one consisting of “an
informational interview and a mini-case” and round two consisting of
“of an informational and full case interview.” However, case interviews
are usually reserved for MBA candidates, instead of undergraduate
    students.

The modi operandi of individual companies varies from
firm-to-firm. Chapter three describes the family-oriented lifestyle
relative to other top-tier firms such as McKinsey and Booz Allen
Hamilton. Additionally, Deloitte Consulting rewards employee
progression and success with swift promotions, however, insiders reveal
the company adheres to strict timelines and if managers “don't think
you're going to make the next level, you're gone.”

    I have found
that Vault’s company and employee information is valuable during a job
research and during interviews. Historical information offers a
foundational knowledge of the company under investigation. Interviews
are personal one-shot impressions you need to be prepared for.
Hopefully, you understand yourself already to answer informational
questions, however, consulting firms ask generally case questions to
evaluate your thought process, so it doesn’t hurt to be
prepared—chapter two tells you what to expect. Recognizing whether or
not a company’s culture suits your personality is important to know
beforehand, which also saves a lot of time wasted commonly on misfits.
Despite your research’s conclusions, you will obtain significant
knowledge of companies or icebreaker information through Vault to relay
to your friends, foes, and/or stuffed animals.

Deloitte (Consulting Practice) (Deloitte) Extended Employer Snapshot: Detailed Employment Information

  • Deloitte & Touche USA LLP (DT) appears to be a family-oriented
environment, demanding comprable work ethics and skills to other firms
alike, yet supportive of balanced family life.  This may be more
relevant to prospective employees, particularly women, who have
graduated college, perhaps have had a significant amount of experience
in the professional arena, and have families or planning on
procreating.  Yet, considering that DT is one of the few firms
that emphasize this quality in their company's messages, I conjecture
that it is indeed a company that promotes a relatively, conventional
    family lifestyle.

  • I am a firm believer that companies require employee participation in
community outreach programs.   A volunteer force, especially
one comprised of educated and experienced professionals, is extremely
advantageous in the betterment of less fortunate children's
lives.  I'm curious to know whether DT offers mentor-mentee
    programs for undergraduate students.

  • Deloitte Consulting professionals also
take community service seriously. In fact, they're dedicated to making
an impact -- each year, the firm hosts IMPACT Day, when firm members
pitch in to help out their communities.

  • In 2005, Deloitte & Touche USA was named one of Working Mother
magazine's 100 Best Companies for Working Mothers for the 12th
consecutive year. The magazine's survey paid particular attention to
flexible scheduling, child care options and time off for new parents.
