From subduction to the world of hot spot volcanoes, this online resource for\nstudents and teachers of geology will please users with its fun and useful\nanimations, crossword puzzles, and well-written articles. The site was\ndesigned to complement a textbook created by W.W. Norton, but many of the\nmaterials can be used as stand-alone exercises. Visitors will want to begin\nby looking through the visually enticing animations, which cover the Earth's\nmagnetic field, the spread of the sea floor, and the formation of ocean\ncrust. All told, there are over sixty animations, and teachers may wish to\nrecommend them to students. Additionally, visitors should note that they\ncan also browse through the materials offered on the site by clicking on the\nchapter listings located near the top of the screen. It's hard to pass up a\ncrossword puzzle, and visitors may find themselves spending more time there\nthan at any other part of the site.

How much liquid can that glass hold? What are the dimensions of that package\nthat's heading off to a friend overseas? Answers to both of those questions\n(and many more) can be found in this lovely interactive feature on 3D shapes\ncreated by experts at the Annenberg Media group. Visitors to this site will\nlearn about three-dimensional geometric shapes by examining a number of\nobjects through a number of interactive exercises and games. The materials\nare divided into four sections, which include "3D Shapes", "Surface Area &\nVolume", and "Platonic Solids". The "Platonic Solids" area is quite a bit of\nfun, as visitors will get the opportunity to print out foldable shapes such\nas a tetrahedron.

These particular resources cover atomic\nstructure, quantum mechanics, atomic size, bonding, and several dozen\nadditional topics. Visitors can browse through these resources at their\nleisure and each topic area includes a brief description of what is covered\nin each set of materials. Specifically, the resources include labs,\nassignments, worksheets, and handouts. Many of the resources draw on\nexamples from the "Fundamentals of Chemistry" textbook, but the site\nsuggests that page references from other textbooks can be substituted.
