"Top 10 Sites for Creating Word Clouds
"A text cloud or word cloud is a visualization of word frequency in a given text as a weighted list (wikipedia)." This is a concept that is utilized a lot in education for: visualization, brain storming, and mind mapping." While this can be done using paid applications such as Inspiration, there are a number of free sites that accomplish the same."

What is TagCrowd?

TagCrowd is a web application for visualizing word frequencies in any text by creating what is popularly known as a word cloud, text cloud or tag cloud.

It was created in July 2006 by Daniel Steinbock, a doctoral student in Design and Education at Stanford University.

A word cloud is a beautiful, informative image that communicates much in a single glance. TagCrowd specializes in making word clouds easy to read, analyze and compare, for a variety of useful purposes:

as topic summaries for speeches and written works
as blog tool or website analysis for search engine optimization (SEO)
for visual analysis of qualitative data
as brand clouds that let companies see how they are perceived by the world
for data mining a text corpus
for helping writers and students reflect on their work
as name tags for conferences, cocktail parties or wherever new collaborations start
as resumes in a single glance
as visual poetry

The list goes on and continues to grow.

"Transform your text into word clouds!
What's a word cloud?
An attractive arrangement of randomly positioned words, where the most important words are bigger than the others.
What are they for?

Mostly for fun! ...and now you can print them automatically onto items: a great idea for making custom gifts! Plus they are fantastic at summarising large documents (reports, speeches, questionnaires, etc), teaching kids and more..."

"ordle is a toy for generating “word clouds” from text that you provide. The clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text. You can tweak your clouds with different fonts, layouts, and color schemes. The images you create with Wordle are yours to use however you like. You can print them out, or save them to the Wordle gallery to share with your friends. "

"

There has been a flurry of posts in the edublogosphere this week about Wordle, a very useful tool that allows you to create word clouds from text (or del.icio.us tags). It’s very simple to use: you just copy text in any language, paste it into Wordle and it will sift through it and create clouds with the most commonly occurring words in the text. You can then edit the shape, the colours and the font in the cloud and even remove words you don’t like by right-clicking on them."

Do you know your audience? You will with ClustrMaps! Visitors don't need to click on anything: just viewing your page is sufficient. We provide (free) the HTML that gives you a tiny map 'widget' to put on your site. When it loads, it increments a counter and shows the locations of all visitors to your page, cumulatively (even for huge numbers).

Know your visitors: See the worldwide distribution of your site's visitors at a glance. Although many other statistical and analytic packages show you lots of detail, only ClustrMaps shows you such a large 'gestalt' overview in such a tiny space.

Target your content: You may be surprised to learn that you have such a large audience in (say) South America, Northern Europe or China. Now you can find out, and adjust your content, your pitch, or your advertising accordingly!

Show off your community: Display your ClustrMaps widget as a 'badge of pride' on your site so that everyone can see at a glance how the community is distributed. Some rival tools do not let you make this information public, but sites deploying ClustrMaps love to show off their readership!

Real-time dots: Read our explanation...

Automatic: clicks optional: Visitors to your site do not need to click on anything in order to be counted properly. Just visiting your site is sufficient. Of course, visitors can optionally click on the little thumbnail map widget and be taken to a large world map view for additional detail.

Speedy, scalable: Fancier interactive maps are great, but can grind to a halt when the numbers of dots to display get very large (hundreds, thousands, or even millions in our case). ClustrMaps displays instantly, because all images are pre-computed, and scales up to millions of dots, because we use our own proprietary clustering algorithm to group the dots intelligently.

Giant map, optional zooms: Clicking on the small map widget brings up a large (800x300) world map, available free for all users. Those who choose to pay the small fee for the upgrade to ClustrMaps+ get more detailed maps.

"Revolver Maps are interactive visitor globes rendered by the Revolver Engine. Check the widget on the left: Use the buttons or drag to navigate.

The Revolver Graphics Engine is a strongly specialized 3D renderer. It's available as a Java version as well as a Flash version. The RevolverMaps Service bases on both implementations.

Now have a closer look: Every visitor leaves an eternal dot on the globe, recent visitors are tagged by the labels showing flag, city and state.
