  • Looks like there's a counter-revolt of sorts going on in the world of education, as librarians and educators - tired of being marginalized by technology (i.e. Google) - are fighting back. In Ohio, for example, librarians and educators are banding together to come up with a comprehensive strategy of disruptive innovation.

Individuals Innovate, Not Institutions - Tennant: Digital Libraries - Blog on Library Journal

  • At best, institutions can foster an environment in which such individuals can bring their dreams to fruition. Some institutions -- too many, perhaps -- will not only find it difficult to support its innovators, but may in fact stand in their way.
  • It can be very difficult to be innovative at a large institution where there may be many people involved in decision-making and resource allocation decisions. And although there may be more resources to be had, the nature of the responsibility is similarly sized, which encourages conservative decisions. The relative commitment behind an innovation dictates the potential distance of the fall.



    Meanwhile, the Internet has provided an unprecedented opportunity for innovators at institutions of any size to witness the widespread take-up of their ideas across the profession.
