"The Pew Research Center has released a new report on its long-term Internet & American Life Project, this time focusing on how millennials will be affected by the hyperconnectivity of their lives by 2020. This is based on interviews with over a thousand select thought leaders on the subject.

This study by Janna Quitney Anderson of Elon University and Lee Raine of the Pew Research Center released a few days ago has some particularly interesting observations and comments from the people interviewed. The report is based on interviews, and therefore an aggregate view of how many predict the future of the newest working generation"

"IBM has a long-standing commitment to health care and global health. This week the company revamped its "patient portal." Dubbed the IBM Patient Empowerment System, it now acts like a social network for participating patients. "

  • Especially intriguing here is the interactive nature of the Patient Empowerment System--if a person has an urgent question about the interaction of two drugs, the system will cross check his or her medical records and background and warn yes or no to taking a particular medicine
  • It also allows patients to log in, update their profiles with prescription information, symptom complaints, blood pressure readings, and to find other patients struggling with similar illnesses or diseases. A patient can send a message to other patients and ask questions about certain medications or offer advice from personal experience

"Mayo Clinic, which has a campus in Jacksonville, has come a long way in just a few years, since adding a Facebook page with more than 3,000 friends, a YouTube channel with videos of doctors talking about illness, treatments and research, a health blog for consumers and another for media to improve the process of medical reporting. It’s also creating “secret groups” on Facebook to connect patients to others with similar illnesses, an area it hopes to expand in the future."
