La DSI face à la "consumerisation" de l'informatique

"Mais depuis 2 ans la pression monte pour ces responsables d'infrastructures avec la "consumerisation" de l'informatique (tiré de l'anglais consommateur - Meaculpa à l'Académie). Elle leur rappelle au quotidien que les progrès de l'informatique en terme d'équipements sont tirés par le marché grand public. Leur champ de compétence s'est aussi élargi ces dernières années avec le rattachement de la téléphonie à la DSI ce qui fait sens sur le plan des infrastructures de réseaux convergentes. Mais cette nouvelle compétence est arrivée avec la responsabilité de fournir des postes téléphoniques fixes et mobiles aux utilisateurs, un domaine qui n’échappe pas non plus au phénomène de "consumérisation"."

Alors que leur environnement est en train de se transformer radicalement, les éditeurs cherchent à les convaincre de poursuivre leur route avec la virtualisation des postes de travail. En gros, on met tout dans le Cloud, les logins, les applications, la bureautique, et on y accède depuis n'importe où et n'importe quel terminal.
C'est surtout rassurant pour les DSI car le cap du paquebot infrastructure n'a pas trop à dévier. Mais est-on sûr que cela répond aux besoins des utilisateurs et qu'ils vont adhérer à la démarche ?

- Depuis des lustres dans la Silicon Valley les développeurs peuvent venir avec leur propre machine et la connecter au réseau de l'entreprise. C'est la condition pour garder les meilleurs et éviter l'éternel débat Mac, PC ou Alienware. Cette tendance dite BYOD - Bring Your Own Device (amène ton propre équipement) est finalement plus un choix social et RH qu'un choix d'infrastructure.
- On touche ici le point de la segmentation des usages pour fournir les équipements aux salariés. Le monde dont on vient c'est un peu comme si on demandait à tous les cadres du siège de mettre un casque et des chaussures de sécurité parce que peut être qu'une fois dans l'année ils vont aller visiter une usine.
- La virtualisation qui va certainement verrouiller une technologie unique pour au moins 5 ans, dans un monde qui change tous les 18 mois, serait une réponse à l'évolution des besoins profonds des utilisateurs et à la complexification a tous les niveaux (équipement, OS, application, réseau) de l'accès au système d'information...
- Car si les utilisateurs n'adhèrent pas à la démarche, ne nous leurrons pas, ils vont avec l'aide de l'informatique grand public, construire le système d'information dont ils ont besoin et ce sera une mauvaise nouvelle pour la gouvernance des entreprises.

- Le salarié prend plus soin de ses outils personnels que de ceux de l’entreprise. Toutes les entreprises savent bien que les voitures de fonction ont plus de bosses que celles des salariés !
- L’entreprise réduit fortement ses investissements en informatique ; on passe d’un budget CAPEX (investissements) à un budget OPEX (Opérations).
- Le mythique TCO, Total Cost of Ownership, d’un poste de travail est immédiatement réduit. La majorité des cabinets d’étude, tels que le Gartner, estime que le TCO annuel d’un poste de travail est compris entre 3 000 et 4000 €.
  Chez Revevol le TCO d’un PC est de 600 € (50 €x12) ; en passant de 3600 à 600 €, Revevol économise 3000 € par personne et par an !
- Sur ce thème important, le pragmatisme s’impose : sécurité du poste de travail, sécurité des applications, sécurité des réseaux ... pour chacun de ces challenges, il est possible de trouver des réponses raisonnables qui permettent de «ne pas interdire» une démarche AVOP.

AIIM’s year-old survey, which found that 74% of surveyed organizations had no idea what E2.0 meant or how it could be meaningfully applied, likely would’ve come back with a similar numbers today.
E2.0 is still primarily a vendor space, dominated by ISVs selling software to businesses who haven’t really asked for it. It is simply not a demand-driven market. By contrast, just think of CRM or payroll software. You don’t need to convince businesses they need that.

- This is why E2.0 ROI discussion keeps going on like a never-ending story. A thirsty person doesn’t care about the ROI of buying a bottle of water – and even paying a premium for it.
- No one (okay, almost no one) expects that buying a word processor can turn him into a great writer. Yet somehow it’s almost widely assumed that deploying tools labeled E2.0 would turn an organization into an E2.0 business. Which couldn’t be further from the truth. Despite all the buzz, E2.0 is first of all a set of principles, not software bits. It is more about business practices and human behaviors than about features. Software with strong social computing capabilities makes it much easier to establish and maintain these practices, but it doesn’t create them on its own, nor does it sustain them.
- It’s not even in applying the best of breed E2.0 tools correctly. It’s in solutions of tomorrow, designed to solve hard business problems through people-connecting technologies.
- Implemented right, social business software and practices have a potential to transform many business functions almost beyond recognition. In other words, they can be quite threatening to organizations that are built around existing processes and tools, and are not willing to evolve. But that’s the topic of another post…
