Nanomaterial Being Produced By the Ton
Because of its light weight Graphene is the ideal substitute for copper for aerospace defense against emerging weapons technologies such as electromagnetic pulse as well as lightning strike protection for the aerospace market.
-
Graphene is an extremely low density material, almost an atomic-scale chicken wire made of carbon atoms and their bonds. It has been the focus of much research because of its exceptional electrical, mechanical and optical properties. It holds great promise in renewable energies.
Among the so far underutilized advantages Graphene offers are that it is fifty times stronger than steel, and it has five times the conductivity of copper, with only one quarter of the density.
Renewable Energy Certificates - Ethics and Vintages
Carbon Solutions Group believes that REC purchases used for LEED projects should be based on the concept of vintages. The importance of vintage based purchases is supported by World Resources Institute as stated previously, and by Green-e Energy as follows:
China Seeks Dominance in Clean Energy
BEIJING — When the United States’ top energy and commerce officials arrive in China on Tuesday, they will land in the middle of a building storm over China’s protectionist tactics to become the world’s leader in renewable energy.
Solar power plants proposed for Sahara
A dozen companies are today set to launch a renewable energy initiative that its backers claim could within a decade provide Europeans with electricity generated from the Sahara - at a cost of €400bn ($557bn).
Munich Re, the German insurer, Deutsche Bank, utilities RWE and Eon and industrial conglomerate Siemens are among the bluechip names that will form a company to explore the technical and geopolitical challenges of peppering the deserts of North Africa and the Middle East with solar mirrors.
David Morris: Distributed, Bottom-Up Energy System Makes a Strong, Smart Grid - Video
The conventional wisdom is that meeting our ambitious renewable energy
goals requires a new, nationwide high-voltage transmission system.
ILSR Vice President David Morris explains how a bottom-up, distributed
renewable energy system can tap the inherent resources across the
states and accomplish the goal at a lower cost.
National Grid report says it can handle variable wind power
The variability of renewable energy sources such as wind, often cited as the sector’s Achilles’ heel, does not have to be a problem, according to a new report from the National Grid.
Nuclear, is it Renewable?
Many see nuclear power as an optimal fossil to renewable transition energy.
Why our sustainable energies are unsustainable - New Scientist
Renewable energy needs to become a lot more renewable - a theme that emerged at the Financial Times Energy Conference in London this week.
EcoGeek - Technology for the Environment
But now a huge number of renewable energy projects are on hold, because no one knows whether these tax credits are going to be extended. Bills containing the ITC have gone through the House and Senate almost a dozen times in the last few years and every time it's been denied. SunPower has said that it might leave the American market completely if the ITC is not renewed.

Meanwhile, it provides the latest market information for scrap metal, plastic scrap and waste paper every day; and updates on supply and demand including daily waste rubber, waste electronic/electric equipment, waste glass and waste leather.
Renewable Energy Marketers Form Trade Association
(Washington, DC) Some of the most influential and competitive organizations in the renewable energy industry have now joined together to create the first trade association for organizations that market renewable energy. The Renewable Energy Marketers Association (REMA) has formed to vigorously promote the economic and national security benefits of domestic renewable energy.
Cleantech Blog: Edison International Says Solar is the Great Untapped Resource
-
Prediction Number 1 - The next 10 years are going to be a wild, wild west in the solar industry. Companies around the globe are exploring new solar technologies of every variety. Stuart thinks it’s way too early to tell which ones are going to be successful. But he considers solar to be the great untapped resource in California and elsewhere.
EERE News: Renewable Energy Continues Rapid Global Growth in 2007

Report: Electric Utilities Investing Billions in Transmission
The U.S. electric utility industry invested $6.9 billion in
transmission projects in 2006, and members of the Edison Electric
Institute (EEI) plan to invest another $38.1 billion from 2007 to
2010, according to a new EEI report. This represents a 60% increase
above the amount invested from 2003 to 2006. EEI is the association of
shareholder-owned U.S. electric companies and represents about 70% of
the U.S. electric power industry. The EEI report notes that
transmission lines are being added for a variety of reasons, and one
is to connect remote renewable energy resources to the electrical
grid.
Clean Break :: Involving cleantech in infrastructure renewal
-
My Clean Break column in today's Toronto Star takes a look at some of the barriers to deploying certain renewable technologies, such as low-temperature geothermal, on a wide scale. A report came out last week saying Canadian municipalities would need to spend $123 billion to repair, upgrade, and overhaul public infrastructure. The question is: How are they going to spend that money? Seems to me there could be a huge economic upside, including potential for high-skilled, high-paid job creation, if we planned now to include clean technologies in any infrastructure renewal program.
China surges ahead on clean energy spending - energy-fuels - 23 November 2007 - New Scientist Environment
-
CHINA is leaving the US in the dust in its spending on clean energy - but it still has plenty to do if it is to shake off its sooty reputation.
