Just 22 locomotives were built (six were preserved and still running today) and allowed the first official, regular, 100mph running on the ECML - the first section being on Stoke bank between Grantham and Peterborough. The locos were allocated to Finsbury Park, Gateshead and Haymarket in Edinburgh. Finsbury Park followed the grand tradition of naming express locomotives in LNER territory after racehorses, and gave theirs a special white cab surround paint scheme.

1. Define the elevation of both endpoints. This probably the more difficult way, because you need to calculate the gradient manually, but it does have its advantages. Gradient is simply a percentage of rise over run, so if you have a track section 100m long, and it gains 2m in altitude over that distance, the grade is 2%. In the advanced tab, there is a tool that will let you define the exact height of the ends of the spline (I'm at work right now, and I forget exactly what it's called). Type in the height you want, select the tool, and click on your end point. Repeat for the other end. Now select "smooth spline", and click on your section of track.
