The Enterprise Content Management Association (AIIM) has defined ECM as "The technologies, tools, and methods used to capture, manage, store, preserve, and deliver information, content and documents related to organizational processes. ECM tools and strategies allow the management of an organization's unstructured information, wherever that information exists." The document management component of ECM generally focuses on managing unstructured content so that it is more easily managed and accessible to enterprise resource users.
