Good overview of how Yahoo is using their Flickr purchase to improve their image search results. Thomas Hawk, one of the leading Flickr users (his snaps of SF are stunning), explains how Y! is using Flickr tags and rankings to increase photo search relevance. What he doesn't mention is that Flickr's image quality is way above anything else on the web (perhaps he's just being modest).
Search going to images and utlimately video, could be the achillies heel for Google if they're not on top of it.
