Pratapgad fort

  • It was constructed on a mountain called Bhorpya Dongar which is covered by the thick forest of Jawali. At the foot hills of the fort lie the two rivers Koyna and Nira.
  • In the succeeding years, Pratapgad witnessed another intense battle where the army of Sakharam Bapu was crushed by the military force of Nana Phadnis in the year 1778. The Anglo Maratha War followed in the year 1818 when the Maratha Empire was forced to surrender the fort by private negotiation.
