  • Rather than calling somebody or sending an e-mail or a Twitter or an IM, you just open up your contact list and click on their name. Wherever they are, your communication reaches them via the most convenient and appropriate means. So, they're walking on the beach, their iPhone rings. If they're in a meeting, they get a text message. If they're at their desk, they get an e-mail. If they're in Asia, they're probably asleep, so they get a voicemail.

    A further step would be to populate the calendar with curriculum descriptions (what the student will be learning in any given lesson) along with assignments (when they commence and when they’re expected to be handed in). This can be done at the start of the year or as it comes.

  • In the survey — completed by 320 institutions, a representative sample of community colleges nationally — the council found that online enrollments had increased by 15 percent on average over the last year, during a period when community colleges’ total enrollment was up by 2 percent.



    In addition, 70 percent of responding institutions reported that there was more student demand for distance learning than they could meet.



    “I think this shows that this is the area where a lot of the future growth and vitality of community colleges will be found,” said Fred Lokken, a member of the board of the council who presented the data at the AACC meeting, in Tampa.

  • There is a clear long-term trend toward reduced number of total LMS licenses. Furthermore, Blackboard reported a slight decline (by three licenses, compared with a gain of 45 licenses in the same quarter of the previous year) of Enterprise licenses from last quarter to this quarter. At the same time, they are still hitting their revenue and profit numbers, and they have not guided analyst expectations lower. So what’s really going on here?
