The philosopher Karl Popper states
that we only really learn from the mistakes we make. -
That means that a student who is searching information on his own will always
think he finds the right information because there is no one to tell him
otherwise.

Differentiation
-
With Moodle schools and teachers can
differentiate towards their students in time.
And with a library
schools and teachers can differentiate in space. -
A teacher can also place some special
tailor-made information for an individual student in Moodle. Maybe this student
is ahead of his colleagues or slow, maybe the student needs some remedial
execises. -
In theory a teacher, absent due to
illness, can place a task in Moodle and tell his class to perform it in the
library. That way the class doesn't lose that hour

We have on our network an open source question and answer program where students
can ask more complicated instrumental questions. It has a faq department as
well. It's interactive of course. The program we have is called one or zero. -
when answering instrumental questions, you sometimes bump into a structural one
(that wasn't phrased yet). -
That's the thing with a structural problem. The one who has it, usually doesn't
realize it.

kids are not in school so that they can tell us what they think about Holden
Caulfield. They’re in school to learn what to think about -
To me the missing ingredient in this discussion is the teacher. A great
teacher can make most books interesting. (Mind you — I’m not saying
likable. You can enjoy the experience of reading and talking about a
particular book -
Now I know that all too often teachers in schools sadly make the experience of
reading a book together as a class a misery. But I have to say that I
believe that done right it can be transcendent. With a great teacher a
group becomes a community discussing and considering and wondering and thinking
hard about all sorts of stuff by way of a great book. It bugs me that
there is such a negative view about community book readings — IN SCHOOL SETTINGS -
After all, people are big on book groups and whole towns and cities reading a
book together. Yet too many of these same folks tear up and spit out teachers
and schools for doing something similar. -
Good teachers guide and prod and get everyone thinking hard
-
It doesn’t always have to be just personal. Sometimes reading is about
something else — about ideas, about the world, about all sorts of stuff. -

If textbooks are the primary source of nonfiction reading with which students
engage, it’s little wonder that we find it difficult to build a culture of
literacy in schools that involves sustained work with text other than
fiction. -

The voting process in Alberta seems shallow to me: people vote for whoever
showed up at their door, the party their family has always voted for, based on a
1/4 page flyer or the
recommendation of a friend who is deemed "up" on politics. Few people actually
research the ideas, the platforms, the candidates thoroughly. -
Blogs and twitters allow us to gain a little more insight, to see the real
person, and ultimately decide if this is someone we want to endorse. For this,
we should all be grateful. -

If we read, review, and write more thoughtfully, fewer weak (and therefore
uncirculated) books would end up on library shelves. -
4. Book-club members who have actually read this book have called its plot
"depressing," "disgusting," and "too much about poor people." Does this suggest
that you, as a reader, have a moral obligation to say that you liked the
book?5. Early in the prologue, we learn that lab animals will be mistreated as the
story progresses. In literature, why is it so much sadder when an animal dies
than when a person does? Why does God choose us to read horrible things like
this? -
Awards are promising (I must read that!), stimulating (like a great menu, you
want to eat them all), and satisfying (When else does a writer hear applause?).

Contemporary corporate IT's top job is locking down the PC and the network,
blocking users from installing their own apps, blocking them from accessing
forbidden websites (nominally this is about blocking porn, but a dismaying
number of workplaces also block IM, webmail, blogs, message-boards, and social
networking services where employees might otherwise find useful, low-cost
coordination with other employees, suppliers and customers), and spying on their
every click and keystroke to capture the occasional bad egg who's saying or
doing something that could put the whole firm at risk. -
The dirty secret of corporate IT is that its primary mission is to serve
yesterday's technology needs, even if that means strangling tomorrow's technology solutions. The myth of corporate
IT is that it alone possesses the wisdom to decide which technologies will allow
the workers on the front line to work better, faster and smarter — albeit with
the occasional lackluster requirements-gathering process, if you're lucky. The fact is that the most dreadful violators of corporate policy
-
are also the most enthusiastic users of technology, the ones most apt to come up
with the next out-of-left-field efficiency for the firm
