Announcing: JuiceKit™ SDK Open Source: Juice Analytics

We're proud to announce the open source release of Juice Analytic's JuiceKit SDK.

The JuiceKit is a toolkit built on Adobe's Flex SDK to make it easier for web designers and software developers to build visually compelling Information Experiences™. It contains a wide variety of development components from individual data renderers such as a single "small multiple", to a large visualization component such as a treemap or US Map, to fine grained "helpers" that provide handy capabilities such as copying data to the computer's clipboard. These components can be used independently, within other applications, or assembled together to create full applications.

Visualization: BioHeatMap - A Heatmap for Gene Expression and Other Data

Heatmaps are a useful way to visualize matricies of data. Scientists often use green-black-red heatmaps to visualize gene expression data from microarrays. This visualization supports both three color heatmaps (ex: green to black to red) and two color heatmaps (ex: white to yellow).

PieSpy - Inferring and Visualizing Social Network on IRC

nferring and Visualizing Social Networks on IRC

screenshot

PieSpy is an IRC bot that monitors a set of IRC channels. It uses a simple set of heuristics to infer relationships between pairs of users. These inferrences allow PieSpy to build a mathematical model of a social network for any channel. These social networks can be drawn and used to create animations of evolving social networks.

PieSpy has also been used to visualize Shakespearean social networks. This page got slashdotted on 11 March 2004, with the site getting 250,000 hits per hour. Thanks to Notnet for making sure it all stayed alive!

PieSpy was presented at the Information Visualization conference (IV'04) in July 2004. Read the full paper online. It has also appeared in Computer Weekly, c't magazine, and I was interviewed live on BBC Radio Kent.

20 Useful Visualization Libraries : A Beautiful WWW

Well, not entirely limited to libraries. Useful stuff for visualization practitioners sounded a little non-specific, though. These are all freely available.
