Eucalyptus
EUCALYPTUS - Elastic Utility Computing Architecture for Linking Your Programs To Useful Systems - is an open-source software infrastructure for implementing "cloud computing" on clusters. The current interface to EUCALYPTUS is compatible with Amazon's EC2 interface, but the infrastructure is designed to support multiple client-side interfaces. EUCALYPTUS is implemented using commonly available Linux tools and basic Web-service technologies making it easy to install and maintain.
Encrypting /mnt using cryptsetup on Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy on Amazon EC2 - ec2ubuntu | Google Groups
Though Amazon states that the ephemeral store partitions (e.g., /mnt) are wiped after an instance is terminated, some security minded folks might want to encrypt the data on these disks anyway.
Here is a simple way to set up a level of encryption at the block device using cryptsetup/LUKS. It has been tested on the 32-bit Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy base install AMI listed on http://alestic.com
RAID 0 on EC2 EBS volumes (Elastic Block Store) using mdadm - ec2ubuntu | Google Groups
Amazon EC2 currently has a limit of 1,000 GB (1 TB) for EBS volumes (Elastic Block Store). It is possible to create file systems larger than this limit using RAID 0 across multiple EBS volumes. Using RAID 0 can also improve the performance of the file system reducing total IO wait as demonstrated in a number of published EBS performance tests.
The following instructions walk through one way to set up RAID 0 across multiple EBS volumes. Note that there is a limit on the size of a file system on 32-bit instances, but 64-bit instances can get unreasonably large. This test was run with 40 EBS volumes of 1,000 GB each for a total of 40,000 GB (40 TB) in the resulting file system.
Saving a Customised Linux Amazon Instance (EC2 and S3) | Times New Rohan
The workflow being, you bring up an AMI, install a bunch of software, configure it how you need it, and then you need to store your new image so you can bring it up again and again (since images will revert back to their saved state after shutdown).

Howto CREATE BUNDLE UPLOAD and ACCESS custom Debian AMI using ubuntu - Linux Config Wiki
This guide will provide all necessary steps on how to create, bundle, upload, run and connect Debian ETCH AMI on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2). For this guide we have used a Ubuntu 8.04 however Debian as a host system can be also used. For more information about Amazon EC2 read here
Seti ami - Sand
his experiment is to create an EC2 AMI that will run setiathome and then to generalize it to all Boinc projects.
I am sure there are better ways to make this work. I did the best I could and it would be interesting to see where others might improve on it.
From, this I plan to build a buy/gift a day of compute or a week of with amazon sales point.
boto - Google Code
An integrated interface to current and future infrastructural services offered by Amazon Web Services. Currently, this includes:
* Simple Storage Service (S3)
* Simple Queue Service (SQS)
* Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2)
* Mechanical Turk
* SimpleDB (SDB) - See SimpleDbPage for details
* CloudFront
SourceForge.net: Running CloudBurst on Amazon EC2 - cloudburst-bio
Hadoop comes bundled with launch scripts to simplify initializing an Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) cloud for Hadoop. Once initialized, running CloudBurst is identical to running on a local cluster. If you use EC2 regularly with the same datasets (i.e. the human genome as a reference), you will probably want to copy the data once to Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) so you can quickly copy the data from S3 to your cloud at low cost.
Ubuntu and Debian AMIs for Amazon EC2 - Alestic.com
Public AMIs (Amazon Machine Images) for running Ubuntu or Debian on Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud).
How to set up Disco on Amazon EC2 — Disco v0.1.2 documentation
With the following three steps, you can set up a Disco cluster in the Amazon’s Elastic Computing Cloud. This will cost you a few dollars (or more, depending on your needs) but requires no resources on your side besides a single machine that you use to setup the cluster.
In this setup Disco master and nodes run on EC2. Your Disco client can run either on the master node on EC2 or on a local machine.
