Seb's Open Research: 9 Ways to Face the Perils of Cloud Computing
I like to think I'm pretty cautious when it comes to safeguarding my stuff, but I admit I was taken by surprise when the spiffy, cluefully designed social bookmarking system ma.gnolia underwent a pretty catastrophic FAIL event a little more than a week ago.

Diigo Blog » Announcing “Diigo Educator Accounts”
Diigo Educator Accounts, a suite of features that makes it incredibly easy for teachers to get their entire class of students or their peers started on collaborative research using Diigo’s powerful web annotation and social bookmarking technology.
Education | Diigo
These are special premium accounts provided specifically to K-12 & higher-ed educators. Once your Diigo Educator application is approved, your account will be upgraded to have these additional features:
* You can create student accounts for an entire class with just a few clicks (and student email addresses are optional for account creation)
* Students of the same class are automatically set up as a Diigo group so they can start using all the benefits that a Diigo group provides, such as group bookmarks and annotations, and group forums.
* Privacy settings of student accounts are pre-set so that only teachers and classmates can communicate with them.
* Ads presented to student account users are limited to education-related sponsors.
Unable to add PUBLIC inline comment | Diigo
-
Adding public inline comments on a home page is not allowed now. We restrained this feature to prevent mass graffiti on home page.
-
Add Sticky NoteInline comments (highlight + Add Sticky Note) doesn't give me a "Public" option on any webpages, including this one. The only options are Private or one of my groups.
- This seems to be an error with the Firefox addon, it works fine with Diigolet (Diigo bookmarklet) - on 2008-10-05
Why my sticky note can only be private.? | Diigo
-
Add Sticky NoteThere are two cases when public sticky notes are not allowed:
- if you have less than 2 friends
- on some home pages
Additionally, there seems to be a bug with the Firefox addon, which prevents some people from posting public sticky notes, even when they should be able. Try using the Diigo Bookmarklet (Diigolet) instead.- I was unable to post Public sticky notes on any websites using the Firefox addon, but it is working fine with the bookmarklet. - on 2008-10-05

- Public highlights and sticky notes should be done with care. To minimize graffiti and spam, we have raised the bar for making public highlights and sticky notes:
- you need at least two friends in the Diigo community to do so.
I can make sticky comments but not as public ones? why? | Diigo

Add Sticky Note

- I tried adding a sticky note on this exact page when using Firefox addon and it did not offer "public" as an option. Now using Diigolet it works fine. - on 2008-10-05
