Tables Vs Divs - css-discuss

  • The real problem with using tables for structure is the complex and (sometimes incredibly insane) nested tables (mostly generated by awful commerical WYSIWYG graphic and HTML editors).
  • My experience is that tables are not used to lay out simple textual content with simple semantic meanings. Rather, they are used to lay out complex sliced graphics that need precise pixel alignment in order to hold together.

  • The main principle of the baseline grid is that the bottom of every line of text (the baseline) falls on a vertical grid set in even increments all the way down the page.
  • You’ll notice in the previous example that the text doesn’t fall directly on the grid lines. Because of the way CSS renders line-height (by adding space above and below the letters)
