Technology that Supports Instructional Strategies
This guide from ASCD provides some questions that will help guide you through the chapters of the book: An ASCD Study Guide for Classroom Instruction that Works
This site identifies and provides technology resources which can be used to support the nine instructional strategies:
* Identifying Similarities and Differences
* Summarizing and Note Taking
* Reinforcing Effort and Providing Recognition
* Homework and Practice
* Nonlinguistic Representations
* Cooperative Learning
* Setting Objectives and Providing Feedback
* Generating and Testing Hypotheses
* Questions, Cues, and Advance Organizers

Master List of Web 2.0 Tools
"Y" Under each category indicates that this tool can be used with this strategy.
"Free +" Indicates that the tool is free at the basic level, but that more advanced versions are available at a cost.
Category Key:
SD = Identifying Similarities and Differences CL = Cooperative Learning SNT = Summarizing and Note-Taking ER = Reinforcing Effort and Providing Recognition HP = Homework and Practice NR = Nonlinguistic Representation OF = Setting Objectives and Providing Feedback HYP = Generating and Testing Hypotheses QCO = Questions, Cues, and Advance Organizers
Putting the Pieces Together
arzano, Pickering and Pollock examined decades of research to find the teaching strategies that have the most impact on student learning. They identified nine strategies that have the "highest probability of enhancing student achievement for all students in all subject areas at all grade levels." Below is a chart showing those nine strategies with their corresponding average percentile point gains on student achievement tests.
Many teachers are asking how technology can be integrated with these strategies to improve student learning. Click on the links (each bar of the graph below) to review those strategies and see examples and templates to support technology integration.
What Works in Schools: Online Survey
The What Works in School Online Surveys are each based on the 11 factors associated with the largest student achievement gains as reported in research conducted over the past 35 years.
The Staff Survey allows teachers and administrators to give their perceptions about the performance of their school or district.
The Parent/Guardian/Community Survey allows those most closely involved in the raising of children to tell their schools how they're doing.
NECC - Web 2.0 That Works: Marzano & Web 2.0
From Stephanie Sandifer. Attendees will learn about specific Web 2.0 tools that can be used by teachers, and strategies that can be used with those tools that align with and support research-based effective instructional methods. Reference will be made to specific instructional strategies and a variety of examples will be shared covering all content areas from K-12 to college/university levels.
