Over the course of the past three social studies OGTs, nearly 20 percent of the questions have come from the skills and
methods standard. Fortuitously, the social studies standards category that jumps out as the most readily addressed by ORC resources is
skills and methods.
The two benchmarks in this social studies standard at the 9-10 grade-level band are:
Benchmark A. Evaluate the reliability and credibility of sources.
Benchmark B. Use data and evidence to support or refute a thesis.
These benchmarks are closely aligned to the English language arts standard "Reading Applications: Informational, Technical and
Persuasive Text." Because of the close alignment, there are abundant ORC resources to address the two benchmarks.
