looking to the projects for a green new rebuilt city... with important solutions.
-
sustainable elements:
• Abundance of light streaming into the building through the extensive glass facing the north;
• Photovoltaic panels on the roof (north side above museum) to provide electrical power from solar generation;
• The pair of wind turbines also supplies electrical power;
• Numerous light monitors in the garden area roof allowing sunlight to filter into the facility from above;
• Extensive use of awnings, overhang of the roofline and trees to control the amount of light/heat let in;
• Trellis on the roof to provide shading;
• Abundance of windows on the east wall to allow morning light into various areas;

reality check: Imagination, fantasy, creativity, play and the ‘real world’
but to read ... some convergence .
Disengagement from the ‘real world’ is a common criticism of the discipline of architecture. With architects serving only 10-15% of the population and an even lower number in housing design, it is not difficult to understand the reasons for this critique.
Conversely, architecture is also about imagination, creativity, play and fantasy—all activities promoted in architectural education, particularly design studio. Through this tutorial, we will try to understand whether architecture needs to touch base with the ‘real world’. We will investigate what this mean for architecture and what is needed for imagination, fantasy and play to become tools in the search for a sustainable future.
