New Virus Attacks Facebook Friends
A malicious virus appears to have cracked the Facebook privacy firewalls and is sending thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands of personal messages that appear to be from friend-to-friend, suggesting they are appearing in a YouTube video and providing the supposed link to view it.

This is a wonderful resource for promoting media literacy, rhetorical analysis, as well as political awareness. It may also be a lobbying tool for expanded video access.

U.S. Visits to YouTube Increased 26 Percent Year-over-Year
YouTube accounted for 75.43 percent of all U.S. visits in May 2008 according to Hitwise. Among a custom category of 63 online video websites, MySpaceTV received the second highest percentage of visits with 9.01 percent followed by Google Video with 3.73 percent.

On April 23, 2008, public forum, <b>"From MySpace to Hip Hop: New Media In the Everyday Lives of Youth," </b> reported on the interim findings of the ethnographic project funded by the MacArthur Foundation, <b> "Kids' Informal Learning through Digital Media," </b>conducted by researchers at the University of California, Berkeley and the University of Southern California. Part 1, 4-23-08. This event addressed how digital technologies and new media are changing the way that young people learn, play, socialize and participate in civic life. The forum was presented by Common Sense Media, the MacArthur Foundation and the Stanford University School of Education.

Memphis area students punished for fight on Web
YouTube brawl earns suspension for two girls. Two Southwind Middle School girls were suspended Monday after their locker room fight was posted on the Internet. This follows similar beatings in Indiana and Florida where the acts were committed in order to videotape the event.
School principal Marcia Crouch sent a note home to parents Monday afternoon alerting them about the fight and warning them of the school district's zero-tolerance policy regarding such misbehavior.
