Olivia's Letters [Lesson Plan on Cyberbullying Awareness/Empathy]
Olivia's Letters is a lesson plan about bullying and cyber bullying that is designed to develop empathy and bystander awareness in children and youth. It was inspired by a cyberbullying incident in Marin County, CA. Two Mill Valley teens empathized with the young girl who had been victimized and took it upon themselves to start an "Olivia's Letters" campaign to boost her spirits. Their actions resulted in over 14,000 letters to Olivia from people across the country and around the world.

Cyberbullying Defined in H.R. 2163
Illustrating how important this threat has become, Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-Calif.) and Rep. Kenny Hulshof (R-Mo.) proposed a federal law that would criminalize acts of so-called cyberbullying. In this blog, two national security advisors propose to take it further so that on-line masquerading is also defined and considered. They would also like to see H.R. 2163 increase the penalities when a cyberbully uses a false identity or steals another person's identity when bullying a victim.

Boys Experience It Too [PSA]
A survey commissioned by the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) shows 37 percent of boys reported being victims of cyberbullying in 2006. In another finding, the study determined that although girls tend to cyberbully more often, boys cyberbully as well. The nonprofit organization, best known for its crime prevention icon, McGruff the Crime Dog, has released a public service announcement called "Chicken," which is specifically targeted to teen boys about preventing cyberbullying. According to NCPC, 43 percent of teens 13-17 years old say they had experienced cyberbullying in 2006 and nine in ten teens (92 percent) reported that they knew the person who was bullying them.\n
