A Message From our CEO

To start things off, I recently attended the Midwest Highlight conference in Kansas City, MO. It was quite interesting to see the tech startups from around the Midwest region. There is a lot of energy in the group, and a growing realization that more and more, high-growth business isn’t limited to a few isolated areas of the country. Anywhere you can build a community of talented engineers and artists, you can build a business.

Brave New World

I attended Highlight Midwest (www.highlightmidwest.org) and met some amazing social media entreprenuers from Omaha, Des Moines and KC. I had never attended an event quite like this one as it was very different from the big corporate conferences from my past. You had the experts, break-out presentations and main stage speakers but it was all in a bar...in Westport! When I first walked in I was asking myself, "how is this going to work?" But let me tell you, it not only worked but was FANTASTIC!

What I Learned at Highlight Midwest #hm1

Bottom Line - if you don’t want to be “the best” - then get out. If you want to be the best then there is a huge, welcoming community waiting to help you get there. And yes, there are some really cool things happening in the midwest.

Highlight Midwest 2008

All in all, the whole day was a fantastic experience. I can’t tell you how happy I am to have been a part of this event, and to have met all these wonderful people and heard their stories. It was a truly inspiring day, if not completely exhausting, and I’m already looking forward to our next big regional get together.

Geeks, tweeps and entrepreneurs knock Highlight Midwest out of the park

My main takeaway from Highlight Midwest is that, in terms of Web and new media innovations, things are moving fast here in Flyover Country — very fast. Dozens of smart entrepreneurs are following their hearts and talents and creating amazing new products, despite everyone telling them they are crazy.
