When Clouds Encircle Islands, Things Get Foggy...
There is no singularity that can be described as "THE Cloud." There are many clouds, they're not federated, they don't natively interoperate at the application layer and they're all mostly proprietary in their platform and operation. They're also not all "public" and most don't exchange data in any form. The notion that we're all running out to put our content and apps in some common repository on someone else's infrastructure (or will) is bullshit. Can we stop selling this lemon already?

Rackspace Acquires Slicehost and JungleDisk: Challenges Amazon's Cloud Computing Services - ReadWriteWeb
Rackspace, one of the world's largest hosting providers, announced two major acquisitions today: SliceHost and JungleDisk. Slicehost is a popular cloud computing and hosting provider with about 15,000 users, while JungleDisk is one of our favorite online backup services. JungleDisk used to rely on Amazon's S3 storage solution, but it will now also support Rackspace's new cloud storage solution.
