Video Book Review: Murakami's "What I Talk About When I Talk About Running" | Sarah Jo Austin

Both Sarah, along with LifeStudent, recommend this book. Sarah really covers what makes this book one to add to your must-read list: it discusses the intersection of running and writing. If you know a serious runner, put this in their stocking on December 24th!

24 ways: A Gift Idea For Your Users: Respect, Yo

I think web designers and web users alike would enjoy this gift: respect. Brian Oberkirch advocates respecting users time, letting them have fun, delivering before hyping a product, using language they'll understand, and asking users what they want in order to create a design that users want to use. Merry Christmas to us!

Values of n Blog: A fork in the road

I really like(d?) I Want Sandy, so much so that I reviewed her services in January. But this post announces some sad news: Values of n, the company behind Sandy, has sold her to Twitter and she will be closed on December 8th. I cannot tell you much I hope Twitter incorporates Sandy's technology.

Lessons from GE's Approach to Personal Productivity - Harvard Business Online's HBR Editors' Blog

This article is a great companion article to Womack's article: Foru steps to actually accomplishing tasks and deciding which not to pursue for businesses, although the principles definitely apply to individual as well.
Label the purpose of every regular or recurring activity on your quarterly calendar and highlight those activities that are connected with your top five priorities. This simple exercise will reveal where you’re squandering your time.

Productive! Magazine about Getting Things Done and Lifehacks. Edited by Michael Sliwinski founder of Nozbe » Editions

Thanks to LifeHacker, I can tell you that Productive! magazine's first issue is being offered for free as a PDF download. I've downloaded it and browsed a bit, but I haven't had the opportunity to read it from cover to cover quite yet. Still, I wanted to tell you about this because it sounds great. If we all cross our fingers (or keep crossing items off our ToDo list?), do you think they'll keep publishing it for free download?

Back To Work: Making Time for the MITs (Most Important Things)

Jason Womack offers some great basic advice for actually, well, getting things done. Maybe none of the other links on here matter if you don't have the process right?
Instead of focusing on having the “right” time management tool or the “perfect” system, place your focus on the process.

tasktoy

TaskToy is a simple and elegant ToDo list manager. I've used/am using Remember the Milk, ToDoist, and even ToDoList. But I like TaskToy for its customizability and usefulness. Not only does TaskToy offer robust ToDo list management, but also a dead simple notes system, a place for links, and built-in Google search.

Google: Get Around Academic Paper Restrictions

I cannot tell you how many times I have hit the "Subscription Required" wall while researching for my PhD. One bad thing about (IMO) underfunded "free" college education is that the fringe benefits students take for granted in America, like access to JSTOR and the OED, are simply not available. Hopefully this little work-around will help me and hopefully other readers of this blog.

Supporters in Springfield Relate to Palin | KSPR News | Local News

Hi, Mom! That's right--my mom is featured quite a bit in this video about Sarah Palin's visit to Bass Pro Headquarters in Springfield, Missouri. She's interviewed by the newscaster, and the last voice-over during the video is her, too. Regardless of who you're voting for, watch the video and say hi to my mom!

If I Had a Million Dollars... | Sarah Jo Austin

I miss Naveed and Stella! Sometime soon I'll post the adorable picture Liz sent of our poor pissed off kitties with birthday hats on. Supposedly they were celebrating my birthday, but they did not look like they liked it. They're so cute. So anyway, this is one of two adorable kitty links this week. Cute overload alert!
