Users, not labels, silence YouTube music videos | Digital Media - CNET News

  • YouTube has for a while given those who post videos that include unauthorized copyright music an option of swapping that music for songs that have been pre-cleared. If they don't like that option then YouTube gives them a second choice between having the video removed or turning off the sound, the company said.
  • YouTube had licensing deals in place with all four of the major labels. Last month, talks to re-negotiate Warner's deal with YouTube broke down and Warner has pulled out of YouTube. Most of the music being silenced now belongs to Warner.

"Stripper Idol" Not So American - E! Online

  • Fremantle further claims the club's publicity for the Thursday night event—T-shirts and print ads—uses a logo too similar in "color scheme, design and font" to American Idol's and may further confuse people into believing the show is an actual endorser of the contest.
  • Club operations manager Scott Stevenson, meanwhile, denied to the Dallas Morning News that the contest bore any resemblance to the show and said that while he has no plans to stop the event, which has grown in popularity thanks to the lawsuit, he will, if necessary, change the logo.

Meet DtecNet - RIAA’s New Anti-Piracy Partners | TorrentFreak

  • which employs largely the same techniques as MediaSentry, but the aims will be slightly different in the majority of cases. The new tactic for the IFPI-headed music industry is to target ISPs instead, lobbying governments to implement the dreaded “3 strikes” or “graduated response” scheme reported so often in recent months.
  • Interestingly, DtecNet is far from an objective investigating firm. In fact, it originally stems from the anti-piracy lobby group Antipiratgruppen, which represents the music and movie industry in Denmark. There are more direct ties to the music industry though. Kristian Lakkegaard, one of DtecNet’s employees, used to work for the RIAA’s global partner, IFPI.

Prince Rebuffed In Italian Plagiarism Case

  • An Italian court has ruled that Prince's 1994 hit "The Most
Beautiful Girl in the World" was plagiarized from a song by two
Italian writers. However, it could take several years for a
definitive ruling in the case, which has already dragged on since
    the 1990s.
  • For a sentence to become definitive in Italy, a "third degree"
ruling is necessary and this could take several more years.
