Was ist StepMap?
StepMap ist ein kostenloser Service, der es Dir ermöglicht, individuelle, personalisierte Landkarten zu erstellen. Ebenso dürfen die erstellten Karten kostenlos in andere Webseiten exportiert werden. Hinter dem Begriff "Landkarte" verbergen sich je nach Thema und Geschmack unzählige Design- und Inhaltsmöglichkeiten. StepMap bietet dabei jedem, der eine Karte erstellen möchte, ein umfangreiches Tool zur Verwirklichung der individuellen Vorstellungen.
Wir unterscheiden bei StepMap zwei Nutzergruppen. Zum einen die Kartenersteller, welche mittels des Tools eine Karte gestalten, um ein Thema oder einen Sachverhalt darzustellen. Zum anderen gibt es die Nutzer, die nach Karten suchen, um sich über ein Thema oder einen Sachverhalt zu informieren.
Jeder ist auf einem bestimmten Gebiet ein Experte oder hat Erfahrungen gesammelt und jeder hat bereits einmal nach Informationen zu einem bestimmten Thema gesucht. Beides lässt sich auf StepMap vereinen – die Erstellung einer Landkarte und das Suchen nach einer Landkarte.

DIY Map is a clickable, zooming map written in Flash and colored by data from an external text file.
The external data file makes it easy to customize and update state colors, add points, and use the same Flash file many times in the same Web page with different data sets.
Thematic Mapping Engine - thematicmapping.org
Thematic Mapping Engine (TME) enables you to visualise global statistics on Google Earth. The primary data source is UNdata.
The engine returns a KMZ file that you can open in Google Earth or download to your computer.
So far only prism maps are supported, but other thematic mapping techniques will be added in the upcoming weeks.
