Apple pulls C64 App after Manomio shenanigans revealed | FocuSoft Tech Blog
Come on Manomio, what did you expect? Did you really think Apple would leave your C64 emulator in the App Store after it was revealed that the BASIC interpreter was still in your software, exposed with a little up, up, down, down, left, right trickery? That's a clear breach of the SDK and well, downright sneaky

Video: Creative Zii EGG development kit gets a second look | FocuSoft Tech Blog
We already know the Creative Zii EGG development edition is shipping out to eager hands , but for the even more eager eyes out there, the folks at Anything But iPod managed some pretty nice, well-lit HD video to give another illustration of how the hardware will look and feel. The narrator is quick on multiple occasions to remind viewers it's an early build running on Creative's Plazma OS only (no Android yet) and he takes issue with the feel of the thin film of plastic on the touchscreen, but that and slow load times notwithstanding, the device is looking mighty impressive. Pictures through the read link, and mosey on past the break for digital peep show.
Samsung’s upcoming WB5000 24x zoomer shoots RAW photos and HD video | FocuSoft Tech Blog
Samsung has a new one in the works, the WB5000, presumably offering the price advantages of an 24x zoomin' all-in-one with some of the features and image quality of a DSLR -- that's the dream, anyway. The camera shoots 12.5 megapixel stills, with full manual controls, face detection and support for RAW formatted images, while also offering HD recording and a relatively compact form factor. True details are scarce, but it sounds promising on the surface.
Leica to open a store in a store in the Photographic Centre in West Palm Beach | FocuSoft Tech Blog
The gadget boutique trend continues, and Leica is latest to jump in for the retail romp, opening a store within a store in West Palm Beach, Florida. That outlet will be inside the Pro Shop for Photographers, which is itself inside the new Palm Beach Photographic Centre, a 26,000 square foot facility for teaching photography, hosting exhibits, and surely cooing over some of the company's sexier special editions . It's a non-profit facility, but we're guessing Leica is hoping its little corner of it will generate a little revenue when it opens in mid-October. Fun fact: despite having all that space, the Photographic Centre doesn't have a single dark room, leaving old-school film photographers with no place to go but the closet.
AOC’s 2436Vw does 24-inches of power sipping LCD on the cheap | FocuSoft Tech Blog
It's nothing too astonishing in the specs department (300 nits, 60,000:1 contrast, 5ms response time), and the DVI and VGA plugs are rather lonesome without an HDMI or DisplayPort plug to tag along, but we can't fault AOC for the 2436Vw's $220 pricetag. The 49W of power draw in a 24-inch 1080p display doesn't hurt either, and we're sort of digging the clean design. The 2436Vw is out now. Brando’s Ultimate 3-Point Hand Strap will help you get attached to your DSLR | FocuSoft Tech Blog
Sure, a regular wrist strap will probably stay attached to both your wrist and your camera most of the time, but why take chances when you can have something like this? Always on the cutting edge of inexpensive, occasionally useful contraptions, Brando is now offering this so-called Ultimate 3-Point Hand Strap, which attaches to your camera's tripod socket, its wrist strap attach point and, of course, your wrist -- all in the name of comfort and stability. Will it hold up to lugging your hefty DSLR around all day?
MOTONAV GC550 GPS device found in FCC filing, nowhere else on the internet | FocuSoft Tech Blog
Here's an interesting case. A new Motorola GPS unit, the MOTONAV GC550, has popped up in a filing to the FCC. It's got external photos, a full manual, all the relevant tests, the works -- and yet, somehow as of this writing, it seems to have never been mentioned anywhere on the internet, at least as far as Google, Bing, and Twitter are concerned. From what we can glean from the manual, the touchscreen device sports 3D mapping, voice commands, Bluetooth pairing with your phone for hands-free use, a microSD slot (presumably for updates like the previous models ), Google local search, and information on weather, traffic, and flights. Not contained in these unearthed documents, unfortunately, is price or release date.
Video: Robots cook delicious ramen noodles for expendable humans | FocuSoft Tech Blog
So you think you've seen robot chefs before, huh? Well, actually, yes you probably have -- but you sure as hell haven't seen a mechanical cook spinning plates, right? We thought so. The latest culinary drone, hailing from Nagoya, Japan, features a pair of delightfully dextrous arms and is capable of serving up a yummy bowl of ramen noodles in under two minutes. With such rapid speed, the bots get some downtime, which they fill by performing a little show for their clientele.

We know the whole where there's smoke, there's hotness argument is played out, but it sure feels like the pieces are coming together here. With Sony's 20GB, 40GB and 60GB PlayStation 3 already a part of history , it's just the 80GB and 160GB models holding down the fort. After August 9th, however, it seems that just the latter will be representin' in Japan

Google Voice iPhone app rejected, current GV apps lose connection with iTunes | FocuSoft Tech Blog
Perhaps the big G spoke too soon when it said its new Google Voice service was coming to iPhone. First, GV Mobile developer Sean Kovacs relays a phone call he had with Apple where he was notified of his app being removed from the iTunes store for duplicating built-in iPhone features -- an app that was originally and purportedly approved by Phil Schiller himself. Next out the door was GVdialer, and if you thought that was all bad, now comes word that Google's official Voice app was flat-out rejected by Cupertino
How would you change ASUS’ Eee PC Seashell line? | FocuSoft Tech Blog
In the past month and change, ASUS has found time to issue not one, but two new Seashell netbooks. Originally shown to the adoring public at CeBIT in Germany , this fresh take on the Eee PC was a welcome change to the drab netbooks we were accustomed to falling asleep on. We managed to have a look at both the ultraslim 1008HA as well as the more business-oriented 1005HA , but now we're eager to hear your opinions on the matter.

Packard Bell debuts updated ixtreme desktop PC | FocuSoft Tech Blog
Packard Bell already rolled out its updated line of imedia desktop PCs earlier this month, and it's now done the same with its higher-end ixtreme desktop, which gets some upgraded specs and a sleek new look. While that exterior is certainly a step up for Packard Bell, it's not quite as eye-catching as the specs, which include your choice of Core i7, Core 2 Quad, or AMD Phenom II X4 processors, up to 12GB of DDR3 memory, a max 3TB of storage space, your choice of a few NVIDIA graphics options (including the 1GB GeForce GTS 250), an optional Blu-ray combo drive, and ten USB ports for anything that won't fit inside.

DSS surveillance tech from Japan makes George Orwell upset | FocuSoft Tech Blog
We take a break from reporting on the impending doom of the human race to bring you news of the latest innovation designed specifically for making our pre-apocalypse lives miserable. Japanese firm DSS is now offering to snap video cameras and ankle sensors -- yes, the same kind that convicts under home arrest have to wear -- onto your employees for the ultimate in workplace surveillance. Sure, you might find out Bob in accounting takes a really long lunch, but do you really need to spend $20,000 and piss off your entire workforce to prove that? Just stalk his Tweets and Facebook status updates like a good old-fashioned employer would do.
GSM Pre to launch on O2 in UK | FocuSoft Tech Blog
We heard earlier this morning that the GSM Pre was set for a UK launch, and now it sounds like things are coming together: The Guardian says the Palm's baby will launch on O2. That makes perfect sense, O2 owner Telefonica reportedly secured broad global rights to the Pre back in March. Of course, this is all yet to be official, but with actual GSM handsets floating around out there and an announcement expected next week, we're guessing we don't have too much longer to wait.
