Discussion: "ARE WE IN NEED OF A "TRIAS INFORMATICA"

"What we however are neglecting/overlooking, despite all the security & privacy measures taken, is that we are also working towards an era in which your personal information will become an integral part of a couple of Grids (read Clouds). Owning such a Grid or just merely controlling this Grid and it’s abundance of personal data – for some information and for others a wealth of Intelligence - incorporates a major risk of potential abuse.

So what can we do? The answer to this question is more complex. In earlier days the French philosopher Montesquieu, confronted with a similar challenge, developed the concept of the separation of powers. A concept at the time meant to control the powers unleashed through the slow conversion from an agricultural-, towards a more industrial society.

Today we however are witnessing an almost explosive conversion from this industrial society towards a digital society, and as during the first conversion our society again is going to be confronted with another major power struggle. "

On selling my car and commuting by bicycle | Justin Turner Arthur

"It's almost been a year, and I love it. Getting into work after a 7-mile hilly morning ride feels great. On the dating front, while my options have been constrained, I've grown comfortable with the "love me, love my bike" attitude... and if worse comes to worse, you can rent a car. Admittedly, I'm lucky to be doing this in a city with many biking communities and at least some level of biking culture. This calibre of lifestyle change will be different for different people in different cities and different work situations."
