The World is Flat | MIT World

Chances are good that Bhavya in Bangalore will read your next x-ray, or as Thomas Friedman learned first hand, “Grandma Betty in her bathrobe” will make your Jet Blue plane reservation from her Salt Lake City home. In “Globalization 3.0,” Friedman contends, people from far-flung places will become principal players in the marketplace. NCSU Tech-enhanced Lectern - Wall-mounted Articulating Arm Style (800x600 JPEG)

  • This is getting closer to what I envision as teacher stations which complement our tech enhanced classrooms. Reduces some of the physical barrier between instructor and students. A variable height arm would also serve to accomodate persons with disabilities. I still want to embed a touch-screen LCD with stylus to turn the monitor into an Ink-capable station for mark-up purposes.

NCSU Tech-enhanced Lectern - Black Lab Table Style (800x600 JPEG)

  • I like the mounting for the LCD screen in this one. The design is a bit cleaner but still seems to be cluttered with "stuff." - edventures on 2008-02-01

NCSU Tech-enhanced Lectern - Black Desk Style (800x600 JPEG)

  • Another nice layout. I particularly like the drop-down /adjustable keyboard and mouse tray.

ClassTech at NC State | What is ClassTech?

  • I like the room tours from the Tour Classrooms link. I also like the Technology Standards and Projects pages as they help to inform the development of new technology to the larger campus community.

  • Dubbed SHOW, the lensless PicoP projector is designed for home and business use, and uses tiny lasers to shoot a WVGA (848 by 480, roughly DVD resolution) image on virtually any surface that isn't a dark color or textured.

MIT OpenCourseWare | Media Arts and Sciences | MAS.963 Technological Tools for School Reform, Fall 2005

  • This course explores the potential impact of modern technologies on the school reforms debate. The first part of the course provides an overview of the current state of the school reform debate and reviews the ideas in the progressive school reform movement, as well as examining the new public charter school in Cambridge as a case study. The second part of the course requires critical study of research projects that hold promise as inspirations and guidelines for concrete multidisciplinary activities and curriculum for progressive charter schools. The course concludes with a discussion of the challenges in scaling the successful innovations in school reform to new contexts. - edventures on 2007-04-26

MIT OpenCourseWare | Science, Technology, and Society | STS.069 Technology in a Dangerous World, Fall 2002

  • Aim is to analyze important current events for what they reveal about
the nature and working of our technological world. Starting point is
connection between technology and terrorism. Subject also explores how
a human-built world can foster insecurity and danger, and how human
beings respond. Many invited guests help develop a strong
interdisciplinary approach (science, engineering, social science,
humanities). Topics include technological risk and remediation,
sociotechnical systems, imagination of disaster, technology and
identity, technology and religion, technology and education, and
    technology and trust.
