Have you ever been in a Skype call and wanted to share your current music with your friend on the other line? Or do you want to add some more interactivity to ustream.tv by letting viewers Skype in questions? You can accomplish this, as well as recording of anything you hear through the use of two simple programs which let you create a loopback audio device. (There is also a screencast.)

Soundflower is a Mac OS X (10.2 and later) system extension that allows applications to pass audio to other applications. Soundflower is easy to use, it simply presents itself as an audio device, allowing any audio application to send and receive audio with no other support needed. Soundflower is free, open-source, and runs on Mac Intel and PPC

Let me say right off the bat- JSTalk isn't a replacement for AppleScript. I don't think anything will ever replace AppleScript and some of the amazing things I've seen done with it (especially in the publishing world). But I think of AppleScript in the same way as the original Macintosh Toolbox and Carbon after it. AppleScript was good in its day, but the time has come for something new. Something that doesn't require using a strange language, crufty apple events, or writing xml files to describe your object model. I want a language with momentum and resources behind it. I want something easy to setup and debug, where I can peek under the covers when things goes wrong.

So, as we all know, GWT hosted mode on the Mac with OS X Leopard didn’t work with Java 6 because Java 6 on the Mac was 64 bit only and the libraries used for hosted mode were 32 bit. You’d get java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError. The workaround was to use Java 5 for hosted mode. The release of Snow Leopard put paid to this scheme. In Snow Leopard you only have Java 6. A look at the installed Java versions shows 1.5 has been replaced by a link to CurrentJDK and CurrentJDK is 1.6.

Despite Apple’s recent spate of Airport updates, complaints on discussion boards keep climbing over long-standing problems with MacBooks and MacBook Pros holding their WiFi connection. While the WiFi technology chain is complex and problems can be transient, Apple is taking a quality-assurance beating on this issue.
