Late afternoon sunlight bathes the upper tier branches of this pine tree. With the season's shortened days, the day's light is even more appreciated. Funny how we tend to value that which is less available - ah, the basis of that economic principle, "supply and demand". Most of us get caught up in the day-to-day routines that demand focus and deny appreciation. Rarely do we have the opportunity to bask in the glory of Mother Nature (much less human nature!). As the 365 project for 2009 begins to close, I can't help but appreciate the daily moment (or so) when the focus is purposely 'out of routine' and suspended in a unique position of design, intensity, and reflection. “Hold a true friend with both hands” - African Proverb The time for giving thanks nears...and the realization that virtual connections blossom into strong friendships negates the fear that the internet would ruin the intimacy and social nature of human beings (check out Stefana Broadbent's TED video on the subject!). The number and depth of those relationships is certainly different than 'pre-web' but the value is worth 'both hands'! Thanks to all in my network of friends and acquaintances for the special element that you add to my life. Lorenzo Walker campus, Naples, FL

The berries of this Christmas palm are way ahead of the date of their namesake, not unlike much of the commercialization of the holiday - both seem to have a mind of their own and certainly don't feel the need to hold to the Christian calendar! ;) The growth and progress of this palm tree could not wait for Christmas season to be captured (and who said we couldn't enjoy the holiday celebration in tropical temperatures - sans snow?!) and so it is a daily photo about a month early! 8th Ave S & Gulf of Mexico, Naples, FL

Limited visibility this morning due to foggy conditions....despite the limitation, it is still a sight to see! “I seldom think about my limitations, and they never make me sad. Perhaps there is just a touch of yearning at times; but it is vague, like a breeze among flowers.” ~ Helen Keller Focus on potential, rather than allowing barriers to prevent vision and action - often a lofty goal, but one worth the soar. 8th Ave S & Gulf of Mexico, Naples, FL

Night falls quickly this time of year and the sliver of a moon keeps the early evening dark. Our clear skies reveal a multitude of stars, though their size and distance are elusive to this camera lens. The moon can now be explored with ease via the new Google Earth download - don't miss out on the opportunity! Naples, FL

Getting the GPS handhelds ready for a collaborative geocaching project with the ninth grade Geography classes. This is the first year we'll take full advantage since the majority of the campus construction project is completed. Hoping we can combine the scavenger hunt with creation of a kmz tour in Google Earth. Understanding your location in the world with the help of the GPS leads to a variety of content areas (math, science, problem solving, language arts, and geography, of course). The navigational tool can also spark creativity and inventiveness - how could a GPS be used? (i.e., designing a car that could drive itself?). Lorenzo Walker campus, Naples, FL

Waiting at a red light and my camera caught this amazing shot - it was kind of a surreal experience and I almost missed the chance to cross the intersection! More and more I'm totally convinced of the need to have a camera accompany me all the time! Who would have thought I could accidentally capture such a cool example of refracted light! It's been said that many inventions occurred by accident, which is interesting considering the linear steps of the scientific method...but there must be something to all of that chaos and spontaneity! ;) Estey Ave & Airport Rd, Naples, FL
