Using MS Access: Linking fields from two tables, member id number, membership id

  • The problem is the field does not fill in with the members ID number when the subform opens up and the info I input just attaches to the first member in the database instead of the specific individual I am entering information on.  It seems like this is a basic think, but I am unable to accomplish the goal.  Any suggestions.

Microsoft Access Flaws - Incorrect display of data

  • There are other cases where Access fails to display data also. Another common one involves a combo box with a zero-width bound column and a RowSource assigned dynamically in the form's Current event. Again, the combo displays completely white even though the value can be read from its Column() property. If the combo has focus, the reverse-video selection is the right number of characters wide, but Access is not displaying the text. This appears to be a timing issue, i.e. the RowSource provides the Column data after the screen has been drawn. (It is different from the perfectly valid case where the Row Source is restricted in such a way that there is nothing in the Column for Access to display.)

Microsoft Access tips: Adding items to a combo/list box

  • Bound Column is not the display value, it confuses people by masking what is really stored there, not to mention the issues with the wizard that creates this. For details, see The Evils of Lookup Fields in Tables. But lets ignore this wisdom, and explore what happens of you store the value list in the table.
  • Does this solve the problems associated with keeping the list in the form? No, it does not.

If the database is split (so the table is attached), the changed Value List is updated in the linked table in the front end only. It is not written to the real table in the back end. Consequently, the changed Value List is not propagated to other users. We still have the same problem where each user is adding their own separate items to the list. And we have the same problem where the user's changes are lost when the front end is updated.

Create a text box that looks up a value in a table - Access - Microsoft Office Online

  • you decide that you want the form to display the name of the supplier contact for each product — data that resides in a table called Suppliers. The following procedure shows you how to use the DLookup function to accomplish this task.

Amal Nagm: Add or change a lookup column Access 2007

  • Understanding the bound value and the display value in a lookup column

The purpose of using a lookup column is to replace the display of a number ,such as an ID (or other foreign key value), with something more meaningful, such as a name. For example, instead of displaying a contact ID number, Access can display a contact name. The contact ID number is the bound value. It is automatically looked up in a source table or query to find the contact name. The contact name is the display value
  • The display value is automatically shown in Datasheet view, by default. However, the bound value is what is stored, what you use in query criteria, and what Access uses by default in joins with other tables.

Database Design: Choosing a Primary Key - I’m Mike

  • The goal of the primary key is to uniquely identify an entity in your database. It does not have to describe the entity. The fact that a particular identifier can be used to describe an object in the real world doesn’t mean it’s a good primary key.

  • Generally,
you can readily interchange salted and unsalted butter in a recipe without
    having to adjust the salt.
    Salted butter
contains ONLY 1 to 2 teaspoons per pound or 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon per stick. However, if you substitute 2 sticks of
unsalted butter with 2 sticks salted butter, take out 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of salt
from the recipe, or to taste.

Breedlove: Employee Payroll Taxes, Nanny Taxes, Nanny Payroll Tax, Employee Withholding Tax Rate, Nanny Tax Law

  • with very, very few exceptions, classifying a household worker as an independent contractor is against the law.

Do you owe payroll tax on hired help? Under this rule, maybe not - MarketWatch

  • That case speaks to the question of: When should you treat hired help as employees on the payroll, and when can you treat them as independent contractors?
  • Sommers explains that the safe harbor rules allow a person or company to hire workers without putting them on payroll, by treating them as independent contractors. Of course, they have to be consistent in adhering to the rules of Section 530. In other words, they must provide 1099s to these workers every year. They can't put one person doing that work on payroll while another is treated as a contractor. And this treatment should be a common practice in the industry or community.
