A Method for Learning Part-Whole Relations

  • An interesting experiment in automatic parsing and discovery of part-whole relationships in NL text. Similar to Biowisdom's method for building intelligence networks. - audreyh on 2006-11-09

Semantic Web @ W3C: Activities, Recommendations, and State of Adoption

  • possibly one of the best presentations I've seen so far at the ISWC2006. Worth a read. - audreyh on 2006-11-09

KIM WEB UI - Semantic Annotation

  • This was demo'ed during the ISWC2006 -- seems like a very impressive product. Need to spend more time looking at this. - audreyh on 2006-11-09

SPARQL Query Language for RDF

  • The SPARQL query language consists of the syntax and
semantics for asking and answering queries against RDF graphs. SPARQL
contains capabilities for querying by triple patterns, conjunctions,
disjunctions, and optional patterns. It also supports constraining queries
by source RDF graph and extensible value testing. Results of SPARQL queries
can be ordered, limited and offset in number, and presented in
    several different forms.

GRDDL Use Cases: Scenarios of extracting RDF data from XML documents

  • Kayode realizes a GRDDL approach alleviates this expense by allowing
a computer-based patient record or any XML-based collection of clinical
research data to be queried semantically by associating a GRDDL profile to
    the specific XML vocabulary.
  • Use case #2: Health Care: Querying an XML-based clinical
    data using an standard ontology

GRDDL Primer

  • The profile URI for GRDDL is http://www.w3.org/2003/g/data-view
and by including this URI in her document Robin is declaring that the
metadata in her markup can be interpreted using GRDDL.
  • The simplest method for authors of HTML content is to embed a
reference to the transformations using a link element in the head of the
    document.

Semantic Discovery of Medical Advice Services with Glue

  • COCOON project: web services semantic discovery: GLUE discovery engine: an ontology that models the medical domain and the rules for matching medical expertises with medical problems. Enables a GP to ask for advice service. http://glue.cefriel.it/glueclient/ -- "atenolol" - audreyh on 2006-11-07

The Semantics of Genomic Mapping

  • "use Mouse to tell us about Cow"; "The Fluxion Stack"; open-world querying is problematic, but great to modeling classes; ComparaGRID -- models and maps chromosones - audreyh on 2006-11-07

A Semantic Web Framework for Integrating Relational Neuroscience Databases

  • uses a RDF-based neuroscience ontology as a semantic "GLUE" to link disparate data sources; ontology-based search, navigation, data mining and discovery - audreyh on 2006-11-07

RDF Friendly Chemical Taxonomies for Semantic Web

  • chem-blast: http://xpdb.nist.gov/hivsdb/hivsdb.html - audreyh on 2006-11-06
  • layered data indexing (for chemical structures) using elements of RDF. INDEX THE FRAGMENT, not the whole!!! use of queries such as 'intersection', 'in', 'not in' in a db environment. Chem-BLAST. - audreyh on 2006-11-07
