Teens take media literacy courses
The average teenager spends more than three hours a day watching TV, but only 43 minutes reading, according to a study by the Kaiser Family Foundation, data which suggests that as important as English literature and composition courses are to a proper high school education, something valuable is missing from the curriculum. A number of schools are already answering that need, offering media literacy programs that teach teens to recognize and deconstruct the ways messages are made in film, television and new media.

Sexting: fears as teens targeted
The new mobile phone phenomenon, dubbed "sexting", led to 32 Victorian [Australia] teenagers being charged with child pornography offences last year.

Ginipic Search Engine for Images
Searches other search engines for pictures (Flickr, Photobucket, Google, Yahoo etc). Windows-only but the Mac version is under development. Some images have copyright info on them, but not all. Allows user to see a lot of different images at once.

We use this video frequently as an introduction at teacher trainings. The MacArthur Foundation is exploring how technology is changing kids and learning, committing $50 million to this initiative.

Microsoft offers this free digital citizenship curriculum to educators.\nThe program focuses on creative rights in the world of digital citizenship. The four units of study are all related to creative rights. They are downloadable as PDF files and include pre- and post-assessment materials. The program is aligned with ISTE Standards and the American Association of School Libraries. It is also endorsed by the National Council on Economic Education.

The disposition of the cases has been wildly disparate: Some kids are arrested, some punished at school and others are lectured about online safety.
