If so introducing them to Diigo could be a great time saver and collaborative tool for them. Students can highlight important facts on the website and leave virtual sticky notes for each other about points of interest. Teachers, you can use Diigo to create a field trip around the Internet for your students. Just set up bookmarks on any subject you are studying and highlight pertinent information and leave sticky notes about tasks that should be completed on each website.

Tags: bookmarking diigo education research

Posted by: sueblimely

Diigo Releases Version 3 - Beyond Bookmarks

Phil Butler's description of Diigo

Highlights and Sticky Notes:

Group tagging, allows entire groups to suggest the best of the best and in this fashion good content (voted on by a collective) tends to rise to the top. The results of group activity are utilized in this way and add to group as well as community content value.

a platform for gather, using and sharing information. Not just any information, but highly filtered and relevant information beyond the weightiness of full Web pages and extraneous data.

Diigo has refined a social annotation and collaboration service into an even more effective “personal and group oriented tool”.

The Diigo platform was developed around a utility (the Diigo browser add on) that enables people to actually highlight and perform functions on sections of or whole Web pages. The idea was and is to allow people to grab relevant content and effectively aggregate, save and/or store this data. In a very real sense Diigo transformed the bookmark into a more usable and effective data collection tool.

Tags: diigo review social networking

Posted by: sueblimely

Tech Thoughts By Jen » Blog Archive » This Month’s Flavor is…..

A couple of disadvantages of diigo

Highlights and Sticky Notes:

This Month’s Flavor is…..

Disadvantage to diigo - receiving bookmarks from others and not having a delete option. posted by sueblimely

#2 — Bookmarks from other people that I don’t know how to edit out. And I find this same frustration with Delicious. If is not that I don’t like sharing ideas — I do — but everything that is sent to me is not always a “Keeper” and not always something I would like associated with me. Hmmm — not sure if this makes sense. I would just like an option, when someone sends me a bookmark, to have the option to say “No Thanks” and right now, I just see Preview, Save, Quick Save, or Thanks. Personally, I think that there needs to be one more option. And perhaps there is, I have just not found it yet.

What I am finding frustrating about Diigo are 2 things.

Tags: bookmarking diigo social networking

Posted by: sueblimely
